          Soda= the carbonated water used in making Soda-pop
          Tonic= a slightly flavored carbonated water that used to be called Quartine (spelling??)
          Pop= comes from the term "suddenly" as in the small sound that was made when you opened the container. Some even debate that it is in referance to the sudden refreshment you recieved from the beverage
          Coke= the white powdery stuff (the beverage used to have some of the same ingredients as the white powdery stuff)

          And just because I know whom Alley girl was having this discussion with I am voting for SODA!!!

                          Soda is just old fashioned.. Pop is the modern word for it.

                          I don't really say either.. I use the drinks actual name. I don't make a pop run, i make a pepsi run, or whatever.

                          but I say pop instead of soda as in, my favorite pop is Dr. Pepper.

                                canadians say all kind of wierd stuff though. Like a beanie to us, is a"took" or something, to canadians.
