You can't be from IL originally, it's always been pop, always will be.

If Kai was from Illinois, then he'd probably kill himself.
          Incidentally, so would I.

I know they say "pop" in Ohio and Minne-soda...
In California it's either "soda" or "coke"(used generically):
"What do you want do drink?"
            "I'll have a coke"
            "What kind?"
            "Mountain Dew."

In Arkansas it's...oh hell, who cares?!
            "Otaeri wa doko desu ka?"

                michigan says pop.

is it just me or are the soda people more hostile in their defense of their chosen term?

i find the generic use of the word coke for all carbonated soft drinks absolutely hilarious and at the same time completely ridiculous.

ah well, good old southern know-not.

I just like to confuse the waitress and ask what soft drinks they have not once have I been told pop, north or south always soda.
I hear people here using pop sometimes but in general they are from the north or rural locations (note: I am talking about the UK now ) we do have one brand called Panda Pops...they are nasty but then they are aimed at little kids. Biggest annoying term is someone saying Juice meaning all soft drinks...what is that all about? Juice comes from the fruit nowhere else.

Born and raised in Illinois, actually.

Just about everyone I know says pop. It sounds so horrid, to me. Like you are trying to be cool.

I met these girls from Minnesota in Mexico over spring break. And they not only called it pop, they accented it so it sounded more like "pap". Im not going to lie it bugged the hell out of me.

                            It's soda.

Pop is for effeminate little goobers who wear bowties and say thinks like, "swell", "shucks" and "golly"!
