if you go intel, get the Pentium M Centrino. It was designed to run in laptops and will run much cooler then the P4. Im a Intel person but I am going to have to say go for the AMD Athlon Mobile 64. Everything is starting to switch to the 64 OSs. It will better in the long run. What kind of laptop are you looking at getting? Speed? Graphics? or just something light? All these factors should go into what you end up buying.
    I hope this helps,

ditto. I got this thing 2 years ago and it still runs great. No problems at all.

If you don't care about battery life, the P4 with HT is a good buy. I have one now.

I'd go with a pentium-m, great mobile performance.

P4 H will out preform the M speedwise. But the M will totaly destroy the P4 H in heat and battery life.

The athlon 64 needs a 64bit OS to really show off what it's got. Lucky You Microsoft just started shipping Windows XP 64b pro.

Go with the pentium M. One thing you need to take into mind is thermal dissipation. Youre a jarhead, so youll spend time in the desert, no? If you get a pentium 4, those things create excessive heat like a mofo. In 115* etc temperatures, thats no good. Add to that the fact that the power supplies in the laptops arent rated to run in that kind of heat, and their power producing capability drops so low the laptop might not even work. They also more fans and ventilation, which let more dust in. (BTW, when you do go over there, dont bring an xbox cuz their powersupplies blow up a lot in that heat. Playstations can handle it a lot better.) As far as 64 bit goes, it isnt in the slightest bit necessary, nor will it be for a long time. XP 64 just came out this week, and itll take a really really long time before stuff starts coming out that runs only in 64 bit mode, or even severly better in 64 bit mode. Not that Im anti AMD, I have an athlon 64 laptop myself, and one of my desktops is a 64. Theyre just not necessary though. In all actuality, processors just dont matter much. Theyve been relatively stagnant over the past 2 years as far as upgrades. Especially in laptops, it doesnt really matter because youre not going to be doing a crapload of processor heavy tasks like video encoding. What you really need to look for is video card. DO NOT GET A LAPTOP WITH INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. You wont be able to play anything at all. Nothing. Well maybe command and conquer on lowest details. But thats it. Get at the very least a current gen graphics card, I.E. geforce 6600/radeon x700 or better. This will insure that you are able to play everything thats going to come out in the next year. It also means that you need to get a laptop with PCI-E graphics. The only ones with this right now are pentium 4s, and sonoma chipset M's.

Anyway, if you dont feel like reading all of that, here is a list of KoSMo KeNNy's Approved Laptops:

                      Chembook 2371
                      Sager NP4880
Also consider the Dell 9300 with Geforce 6800 go, and the XPS Gen 2.

Of those, if money is available go with the XPS Gen 2 for all out best laptop, as well as sturdy magnesium body. If you dont want to spend that much, I would get the Sager, because it uses DDR ram instead of DDR2 which is more expensive and not better performing, so you could add more later for cheaper. It also comes with 12 cell battery, which is awesome, and its not a widescreen. While widescreen sounds nice, it isnt necessarily a good thing on laptops because most stuff doesnt support widescreen yet, so it stretches it. And on an LCD monitor, stretching an image makes it very blurry, which is no good. And if youre all like "I dont want a Sager or a Chembook, Ive never heard of those clowns", then consider that they are real laptop manufacturers. Everyone from Sony, HP, Compaq, Emachines, down to fancy stuff like Alienware and Voodoo Machines, they are remanufacturers. They take Laptops like Sager (Alienware, Hypersonic-PC, Voodoo) Chembook (Voodoo, Hypersonic-PC, and some HP and Emachines laptops) and paint them, put stickers on them, and call them their own.

Sice the beginning of time AMD has kicked pentium butt.

Go w/ AMD, always and forever.
