I've never read the books (although I've been wanting to for some time now) and I LOVED this movie. I MIGHT go as far as to say top 10, definately top 20. I loved the little idea slapper thingies. Makes me laugh to think about them

How could you not like it?
I thouught it was kind of dumb but i went in thinking it was dumb. So I loved it. And where they find the guy that looks just like a Vordog or whatever they were called. I still laugh at just how ugly he looked.I am a declared Carb lover.

Just saw it last night. Terrible and very disappointing. Was one of only two movies I have considered walking out on (the other being "Young Einstein" with Yahoo Serious, which I DID walk out on).Comment

Steelrat what disappointed you about it? I enjoyed it very much and I don't think they could have cast it any better. I wasn't sure about MosDef going in but he really was Ford Prefect. And you gotta love Alan Rickman as Marvin. I'm just curious as to what turned you off? Had you read the books or listened to the radio drama?Comment

I've heard the radio version and saw the BBC TV version multiple times. Here are my likes and dislikes:
DISLIKES:
-Rushed right thru the story, and the whole movie seemed like a series of unrelated and disjointed events.
-Stupid cookie-cutter romance
-Sam Rockwell's one-note performance as Zaphod
-Frankly, the BBC Marvin sounded better than Rickman, much as I like him
-What was the whole point of the Humma character?
-Trying to cram a book full of stuff into a 2 hour move (see #1)
LIKES:
-Heart of Gold jumps, very entertaining, especially the yarn thing
-Good special effects
-Someone spending the money on a VERY good book series
Frankly, the BBC version was much truer to the original story, though it was longer. I know that Adams worked on the screenplay for the movie, but it was one of several drafts, and he hadnt finished it by the time he died. I just though it was such a horrible jumble of stuff, and was totally unsatisfying. And the cliche emotional add-ons were pathetic. The whole thing between Triallian and Arthur was forced (she was in love with him after one night in which he acted like a dolt, and one day with him during which he acted like a coward, what?). And when Marvin gets shot, everyone gets upset, then Marvin gets up in slow-mo and shoots the bad-guys, was just pathetic. Truly a bad version of a great book.
For a bit of Trivia, in the movie they show one of the original characters from the BBC TV show. Seeing this character was the one thing that made me smile. Well, that and the yarn thing.Comment

Now that I saw it, I definetly think the book was better. A few years ago I bought a show series on the book too. In the movie, you know the guys who have the 3rd most terrible poetry? Well, in the series or book I forget, apparently it is so bad sometimes that their intestines crawl up their digestive system, and strangle them... They should have added that in the movie..Comment
