Alright, so last night I was laying on the couch listening to some Emperor and I got to thinking....how did I go from bands like Aerosmith and the Rolling stones, bands that my parents listened to as teenagers, to bands like Kovenant and Mayhem, bands that most people shudder to think about.
So after some thinking, I came to the conclusion that Heavy metal is a drug.....a very addicting drug at that.
Here's my reasoning.
In elementary school, I got introduced to bands like Led Zepp and Van Halen. As time progressed, I grew an ear for the loud. Like a druggie, I progressed to more intense things. In middle school, I got introduced to the Deftones, Korn, and Fear Factory.....still not metal, but heavier indeed. At that point, bands like Marilyn Manson and :::::gasp::::: Slipknot, felt too dangerous. I was like a pothead. I had my head in it, but I wasn't wanting to go any further for my own safety. Well, push the clock forward to highschool and things are progressing nicely. Most of the CDs in my car are banned for radioplay and some bands aren't even allowed to be on MTV. I've moved into darker territory with bands like Slayer and Morbid Angel and on lighter days, Pantera. I don't neccesarily agree with the lyrics, but I'm addicted anyway. I've made the jump from more innocent music to music that is banned in some stores. Well, lets graduate and get me to college. Slayer just ain't doing it anymore. Toms voice just isn't dark enough. Kerry, Bless him, but he just can't make my neck snap anymore. I'm in heroin country now. I am full on a metalhead. Bands like The Berzerker become my "relax after a hard day of classes" music. I can fall asleep soundly while I listening to Cannibal Corpse. Tattooing Amon Amarth on my shoulder blade crosses my mind more than once. But what do I do now? I'm at the bottom of the barrel. I've reached the heaviest of the heavy (if you wanna argue whether a band that eats their lead singer is heavy enough, be my guest)
I know this was a random post but I had to put my thoughts into text somehow. Anyone agree with me?

? Its like nobodys allowed to have opinions around here... yeah it was a little harsh and a bit taboo but thats how i view heavy metal. if you have a comment as to why heavy metal isnt like that or why clapton was the lesser of the two or why folk-rock (my fav genre) sucks go ahead.
