Alright, here it goes. First a preface. As with Attack of the Clones, I was able to get into a pre-screening through one of the guys that I was good friends with in High School (he's a few years older than me) who now works for Lucas doing something in the computer graphics department (or something, not exactly sure). So May 5th I went and saw Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. I'm not really going to sensor this review, so if you don't want me to acidentally reveal anything, although I'll try not to, I'd recommend not reading further.
------------ Space Intentionally Left Blank -----------------
Okay, here it goes. Overall, I would rank Sith after Empire, and Hope, but in front of Jedi and way infront of the other two, which I won't bother to name. I was a huge critic of the first two and will be the first to admit that my expectations weren't all that high going into the film. However, I was thoroughly impressed. Lets get the easy stuff out of the way first. The cinematics and computer graphics were absolutely amazing. Think about the space battle in Jedi and multiply it by 50. It is insane! Very very fun to watch. Here is the thing though. The good cinematics doesn't end with the battle scenes and the light-saber duels, which there are plenty of and are amazing in their own right. There is actual emotion in this movie, none of the pretty boy acting in the first two, that will not be named. It isn't the most moving film ever made, but its good. One scene that really sticks out is when Anakin goes back to the Jedi Temple and enters the children's room. You feel your stomach dropping ad feel the pain as if you were Yoda and could feel their pain. Even Christensen delivers a performance that I enjoyed. (I maintain that he is the single greatest flaw in AOTC (damn it, I named it)). The stage of the Clone Wars is set and is amazing. The thought of the entire galaxy at war and its representation in the movie is excellent. I will stop short of going into the nitty gritty of what I liked until the movie comes out, little things, one that I will mention, Palpatine's face/character for example, are what make the movie fun to watch and I don't want to ruin it for people.
I guess nothing is perfect, so what I didn't like. Natalie Portman. Just didn't add to the film. I think that her character could have done a lot more and just didn't work. Part of the blame I lay on the screenplay/directors and the rest I lay on Portman herself, who as always looks amazing, but the acting was a bit lacking. Also, I wasn't overly impressed with General Grievous either. I had extremely high expectations of course, and I was disapointed.
I guess thats all I'm going to say about this here
. See ya'll in the theaters May 19th!
