Please don't get a Saturn, my girlfriend has a 98 SL and it is the most boring car to drive. I just hate the way it looks, feels, preforms, etc etc. Out of the cars you listed I would go with the Integra, if you can afford the insurance you could go with the type R.

      i do enjoy performance though...

Hmmm... in my experience cavaliers are a piece of ****, but mabey thats because I used to see one driving up leaking radiator fluid every day. The 3.2's are FAST though. People seem to like the acura's and ill look into cavaliers too.

        Ford Taurus SHO (junk trannys)
BMW 325 Ci or Cic (Nothing special and parts are expensive)
Acura Integra or RSX (as long as you don't think it's a race car fine)

The only reason i said saturn is that they are cheap. Fun cars often mean higher insurance.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

            just remembered...

another hella quick car for cheap is the dodge stealth.

Only madem till around 95 or something, and you still wont be able to afford the turbo version (which has all kinds of cool features like AWD and 4 wheel steering). Buuut, with 4-5k you could get yourself the R/T, which has plenty of juice. Yeah these things just have lots of kick for the buck. Pretty sure the non-turbos are pretty mild w/ insurance, and you wont find a better LOOKING car for that much.

i would still say that you should get a VW Jetta TD though. Its the cheapest by far in the long run and performance is good.

If you want to stay on the cheap, don't get the BMW... while nice, they can be expensive both on insurance, and for repairs.

VW TD is the way to go.

Go for a Acura Integra, or a Eagle talon AWD turbo...I think their insurance is alittle high...but they are hella sweet cars, and FAST!

Get a car that is both reliable and practical. As a first time driver you really dont need anything with outragous amounts of power. Learn to drive first! There are pleanty of nice cars out there that dont do a quater mile in under 15 seconds and are good for learning on. My first car was a 1980 something dodge colt. I totaled it in 3 months. Glad I didnt buy something expensive

go with any older car that you can find parts for cheap, ie. chevy, dodge, ford, anything older than 98

Hmm how are ero cars (IE. VW's more expensive to repair than a Jap car???). IM a mehcanic and asi said i bought my VW for less than a $1000k CDN and have spent laround $169 on it (i forgot i replaced the one cv axle). Parts have been VERY cheap for the car and it has been VERY reliable. all the parts i have replace were within SPEC (im a mehcanic) but im PICKY and beat on the car so i replace em as i go. The car has surpirsed me on the reliabilityt side as she is a 1987 with LOTS of milage 315000kms (200000miles) and still goes strong the engien was replaced on mine befor i bought it though but i still have the engien and it runs fine just smokes a bit more. I gona re-ring it and swap it into a secret project of mine. If i decide to keep the car for a while rather than replace it next year i gona stick a 1.9's turbo on it for some performance and paint the dang thing to perty it up a it.

Now all that being said my buddy at work owns a 1993 honda CIVIC with 219,000kms (136000miles) he paid $3000 for and has had the following probs with: Rebuilt engein (old one had the rod throught the block), battery, , parking brake cabels, alterantor, wipermotor braket broke off levein the wipers free wheeling (used a coat hanger to MANUALLY operat the wipers for a while LOL), some suspension work (cant remeber), CV axles BOTH, oh and a TON OF body work. All the parts are pretty mutch on par with the parts for my car some more expensive and some cheaper.

My car has proven to be on the more reliable side and is ALOT more comfortable for a big guy. The milage differance is HUGE as on my VW i get 45mpg average in the CITY while my buddy gets only 32mpg CITY. My car cost about the same to inshure and im ALOT younger 21 while he is 39. My cars alot better for bad weather driving (Snow especially dont know if thats a concern for ya). All in all you REALLY CANT generalize vehicals by make like that BUT in my personal experiance my VW has been the CHEAPEST to own vehical i have seen and that ALOT considering im a Mehcanic for a living.

Im in a similar predicament. I have a budget of $8000, preferably $7500 or lower (been saving since i was 13). Im thinking about just getting an Integra, but i could also afford a Lexus ES300. Theyre based on Camrys, and have been rated as extremely low-maintenance and high-durability. Plus they already come with a decent sound system (i NEED to have a good stereo).

                          Any input?

i like miatas -not to mention they pick up chick's faster than a 72 camero ss iroc, this is tested and true -dont take out parents car w/o permission -they get pissed

im not a girl but i honestly dont give a f*** about what people think about what im driving, as long as they are thinking it BEHIND me

for 2000 bucks and a day of work i could pump 180 hp out of my mom's miata easy, and she would sell if to me cheeep if she bought another car

ill look into the eagle and vw's

i already have an air cooled vw w/ dual webers + a header on my dune buggy

Well if you want a good sound system you are going to end up replacing the stock one.
