Battle of Kursk-biggest tank battle in history, last major German offensive in the EastOriginally posted by 68birdwell im sitting in class and we just got an assignment to do a report on a wwII battle of our choosing. i need some help to figure out what battle to do cuz all the big ones are taken like dday. stalengrad, the bulgd ect. please help thanks.
Battle of Midway-Turning point in the war in the Pacific
Battle of El Alamein-Turning point in the war in the desert
Battle of Berlin-closing of the war in Europe, extremely bloody
There are plenty more, those just sounded interesting to me -
The German plan for Kursk was "Operation Citadel", which might be a useful search phrase on the internet.

Battle for the Aleution Islands (Alaska).
Sinking of the Graf Spee.
Kasserine Pass.
Merrill's Mauraders.
US Rangers assault Point du Hoc on Omaha Beach, D-Day.
U-Boats off the Florida coasts (both coasts!)
The 6 German sabateurs that made into the USA by U-Boat...but were all caught.
The Japanese submarine that shelled Goleta (Santa Barbara area) Ca.
Escape and evasion of Doolittle's raiders in China.
Battle for Wake Island.
Hiroo Onoda, the last Japanese soldier to surrender...in 1974.
Heck, everyone knows the big battles, the fun is finding the little ones!

Look into the desert raids by the brits in Africa. The OSS really crippled Rommel's force there, causing major supply shortages. All done by a few brits and americans in land rovers. Lots of daring tales to be had by them!Comment

By E-boat, you are referring to the German torpedo boat, right? I'm not sure if there were many major actions between the two. The PTboats were mainly used in the Pacific theater, as the surface actions in the Atlantic were pretty one-sided.Originally posted by 68birddoes anyone know any battles involving ptboats and e boatsComment
