AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
He ignored my cleanup suggestions. Without real forensics tools and experance, the only way to clean up an infected machine is a format and reinstall. I can't offer much more there.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A host based firewall can not only prevent a lot of worm/viruse exploits, it can also show you what is trying to go ot to the net to "phone home", or bind to a port and create a back door. Not only that, but they are nice and free for personal use.
And yet today there is a nice lil story about how there are more flaws in security programs than in the core OS. So slapping on a ton of "security" software may be hurting more than helping.
Prevention is key. Prevention can be accomplished in a number of ways. Some simle hardening on any system will prevent most infections before you are digging through the registry and booting in safe mode.
