A Ploughmans lunch is basically a salad ham or cheese and pickles...Branston (brand name version) or Picalli with a big chunk of bread, white or brown. Yes it does come with booze traditionally it would have been Ale, Bitter or maybe Cider but nowadays it would be Lager.
Liquid lunches are pretty much acceptable in this country but only in certain industries very common in the City based trades (office mainly) or working trades like tradesmen (carpenters, builders etc) The City go one step further with the evenings with a Thursday being night out time so much so that the Office based companies fully expect their staff to often not come in on the Friday.
