Looking for first car - Under 18k New

Alrite, well my dad recently got a bang up promotion at work and a bonus to die for, today he asked me if i had a car in mind that I might want for my first, that he could buy now, and him drive it around until I got my license

He asked me what a bout an Element, so im guessing around that price range... Although im not looking for an element. I'm looking for a cool lookin car (of course), with plenty of accesories available to upgrade it, with a decent amount of scoot...

I think 18K for a first car is nuts, but more power to ya!

        Cobalts are super cool.

i second the scion or the mazda 3

But I would buy used. Buying new is not the smartest thing to do, especially with cars. You can probably get a nicely equiped car for very cheap if you go used. Just hop on autotrader.com and see whats available in your area

One of my rich friends parents bought him a Scion with like, all of those gay "customization" options and it ended at like 25,000.

It's already falling apart. The top plastic panel in the hatch fell off, his seats that fold down, the latch that holds them is totally broken. Piece of junk as far as I'm concerned.

I would buy used if I were you. Best deals in the world.

However, if you absolutly want to buy new, I would suggest a jeep.

Oh, and one of my friends has a Mazda 3 and it is a very nice car. Not the best looking...if you could afford a mazda 6, that would be the best deal.

A little? Anything with a cummins starts at almost twice what he wants to spend.

Jeeps are great as suggested please remember though they arn't race cars and do go over. Take it easy on the corners and don't speed too much, swearving to avoid another car pulling out infront of you could land you on your side.
And opt for the 6cyl, they get the same gas milage as the 4 due to gear ratios and the extra power is nice when merging and such.

They're right about the new cars as well, you can find the car you want with 5,000 or so miles on it that some rich person traded in because they didn't like it and save yourself a good 20% over the new cost.

Meh, in his price range any Mazda 6 he would get would have the 4 cylinder.. the same one that's in the 3. The engine does a hell of a job in the 600 pound lighter 3.. but has some issues in the 6.

I am going to second the NOT getting the Scion, they are crappily made cars. I am greatly dissapointed in Toyota in that.

But, I have much faith in other Toyota products. Check out the Celica, it is a nice car. And the GT version can be had for just under 18k. Jeeps are nice, but I don't think they are safe enough (IMO).

They're plenty safe so long as you don't do stupid things. I've watched jeeps going 90 down the highway, they're just asking to roll the thing 16 times. The best is some people decided the new style is to remove the roll cage, Darwinism at its finest.
