The collective intelligence of a group of teenagers is inversely proportional to the number of teenagers in the group.

In other words, a group has only a fraction of the intelligence of the dumbest member.

A new driver should be concentrating on one thing only. And that's driving. Not carpooling, not group arguments or discussions, not who gets to listen to the radio, etc.

As far as "getting around" driving laws, be VERY careful. There are often very stiff penalties for having more than one drivers liscence or having a drivers liscnece in a state/province where you are not a resident.

Now, if you ARE an out-of-state/out-of-province resident you may be in a sticky situation. The laws that govern your liscence are those of your home state/province. But, the highway code that you have to respect is the one where you are driving.

The only ones who could answer which rules and regulations take precedence and if other laws will be enforced or local ones ignored are highway patrol officers.

But also, your insurance company will probably have something to say about where the car can be driven and by whom to remain insured....

well, i don't know in your area, but all the time i see the teens driving their parents car, driving through red lights. now i don't mean the light turned red while they were in the intersection, i mean it was red before they got to the intersection. i've seen some very close calls where there was a car in the intersection trying to turn left, and some dick decides not to stop and just go. just you let you know, i see this all the time at the deadliest intersection in illinois. now with more and more people being on the road, and more teens doing this, i don't see how this will help curb teen deaths.

            stupid kids.

i've been driving for 2 and a half years now.
i drive more than most of you do though, i deliver pizza's for a living(about 120 miles a nigh, 5 nights a week)
I know how stupid drivers are.
i know that people do dumb things and teenagers that are trying to show off do most of them.
            damn kids.

Because they'll do it with only themselves for a while, and that sure as hell beats doing it with other people in the car with them.

Yea we have to have our restricted for a year..but apperently if u have been driving for a year (since you've had your beginners permit) with no accidents or violations then they send you a thing that allows you to drive whever but you have to be sixteen....i recently got one had no clue thye did that though....having alot of people in the car does cause accidnts...people start to show off and F around ..teenagers drive bad enough without friends as a distraction...

In Georgia you have to wait 6 months to drive people around and you have to wait till your 18 to stay out past 12am. I cannot think of a single person that actually followed those rules, the cops here just don't enforce them. Back when I was sixteen I was pulled over and in violation of both those 'laws' and the cop didn't even mention anything about them.

                  Thats Georgia though...

As a 16 year old driver you have no right to complain about anything period. You shouldn't be driving until your at least 18, and then you should be required to drive nothing nicer than an old pinto. Deal with the six month ban of driving with friends and when you are done, you will probably realize that you really did need a solid six months more experiance to even begin to deal with your nutty friends. Well I guess is you do decide you must drive with friends, just don't try and show off your new bmw. You will get yourself into trouble faster than you can think, and thats where inexperiance will really burn you.

A 16 year old that just got their license is not skilled. No matter how confindent you are of your driving ability, 16 year old drivers are not safe drivers.

Graduated license programs do work. Limiting the number of passengers also reduces the number of distractions.

16 year old drivers outpace any other age for fatal crashes. The number of drivers in fatal crashes drastically drops by over 50% by age 20.

Sure it may seem unfair to many younger drivers to limit their licenses, but something must be done to increase safety. Graduated license programs work. If it helps keep you alive, and more importantly, keeps you from killing me, I support it.

In addition, 16 year old drivers should not be blasting their car stereos or using their cell phones. I don't think anybody should blast their stereos. It's hard to hear things like horns, motorcycles, and screams coming out of the trunk of the car next to you.

I had a teacher in sophomore year in high school tell us that no matter how great we thought we were behind the wheel, to look back when we are 17 at how much better we are at driving, and how cocky and stupid we were at 16.
