    War of the Worlds *Spoiler*

Sorry if there is already a thread on this but since there is no search I'll just make one. So anybody see it yet? I just got back from seeing it. I thought it was a good movie but I am still alittle confused about the ending. Exactly what made their sheilds stop? I know it has something to do with the plant, but what?

i saw it the day it came out. They died becasue of the bacteria. It's kinda like when the Euros came to america in the begining (kinda). The indians were not use to our bacteria so they died from diseas. That being said, it what happend to the aliens. But that is what I think, i may be wrong. Only thing that I never got from the movie was how the Boy survived.

They died because of a reaction to bacteria native to Earth.

Mr. Well's point being: we are helpless to stop them. We are cruel and weak and self-centered in crisis. We just got lucky.

        [teamamericasong] Everyone has AIDS![/teamamericasong]

me and my friends said they died of aids because they were sucking peoples blood out.

But yes the bacteria thing was probably what was intended, but aids is funnier.

Sorry, something about a 107 year old *spoiler* I find funny ... "no, don't tell me, I plan on reading it next century"

This is from the book, first published is 1898 (damn that's a long time ago) but the quote from the end of the movie was pretty close if not verbatim (I can't remember):

"For so it had come about, as indeed I and many men might have foreseen had not terror and disaster blinded our minds. These germs of disease have taken toll of humanity since the beginning of things--taken toll of our prehuman ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and to many--those that cause putrefaction in dead matter, for instance--our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria in Mars, and directly these invaders arrived, directly they drank and fed, our microscopic allies began to work their overthrow. Already when I watched them they were irrevocably doomed, dying and rotting even as they went to and fro. It was inevitable. By the toll of a billion deaths man has bought his birthright of the earth, and it is his against all comers; it would still be his were the Martians ten times as mighty as they are. For neither do men live nor die in vain."

First all, the boy is a pwnt. He ran like hell, which is what i would of done. The aliens died from the bacteria on earth. They had no defense against it because they hadnt lived in it for the past millions of years as we have. We built an immunity to it, well most of it. They were like newborn babies. Hardly any immune system. Thats why babies have to be kept in the little special rooms at first.

I loved this movie. It seemed so short when I was watching it, but I realized later that was just from the incredible suspense and action throughout the entire movie. I just can't get the trident's horn sound out of my head, either.

Haha that horn was great, you hear that horn you better run like hell. You dont even have to be the fastest, just make sure there are people behind you lol. The movie did seem a little short though. But i guess it might have been from the suspense

                    Great movie, very creepy.

If you're really a fan of War of the Worlds, get the musical version. It was produced in the 70s by a guy named Jeff Wayne. I love it, but I have never, ever met another person who listens to it, or even knew about it. Eve of the war rocks!

I thought that the movie was one of spielbergs less thrilling movies (not the worst but not the best) however back to your question as other people have said yes it was the bacteria

ok the movie was great up until the end. when the road clears away and bam, theres every single main character in the movie all safe and sound in the house. can you tell me which main characters died in this movie? Other then the end, i thought it was great.
who ever said "its not whether you win or lose..." probably lost.

I totally agree. I really wanted the boy at least to be killed. He was a little selfish, leaving the young and vulnerable Dakota Fanning and the lovable but flawed Ray(Oh look at me, I'm Gene Siskel!), but what really bugged me was his mouth. It just looked really small in proportion to his head. It bothered me every time he talked (I am no longer Gene Siskel. ).

Whoops, just remembered siskel is the dead one. I am no longer a coroner.
