Macross Zero - Visually stunning, entirely too brief
Macross Plus - Box lady 'nuff said on that, Great action sequences and a great story in Movie form
Ghost in the Shell - Again, visually stunning and well told
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Where did the Major's cloths go? I really wanna know Tachikomahs are the BEST
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Headtrip in a box uppon completion, entirely unorthodox in style, burned out on it as a conversation piece though...
Cowboy Bebop - Good story, though a predictable ending, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" added little to the serries but worth seeing
Samurai Champloo - Reminicent of ye olde samurai anime of years past, well drawn, dunno about the story though
FLCL - "WTF Mate?"
Akira - every newb needs to see this at least once
Princess Mononoke - Great mainstream film from a respected name in the industry
Robotech/Transformers - Shows from my youth, fond memories are associated with them.

and lastly, but certainly not least...

Excel Saga - For those times when everything seems a little too serious and you just need to let your brain turn to moosh.

Full Metal Alchemist is my current Fav... bought all of season 1 and 2 on DVD already...

Robotech, the first iteration, the other two with that girl and the ending season I guess weren't all that great to me.
Full Metal Alchemist...yeah. Its ok, very twisted sometimes, but also very whiny and crying like a horror soap opera with magic science.
Cowboy Bebop. Amazing. This has to be the defining anime for the next 2 decades.
Trigun. Little goofy, but overall very good.
Starblazers. Classic.
Gundam. Classic too.
Voltron. Classic x3.

Champloo, a little slow at first, but its slowly beginning to be good. Too bad the creators have to try to out do Cowboy Bebop and are trying a little too hard IMO.

Hellsing!

The anime series was semi retarded as they made ups omething separate from the comics but the new hellsing series will be based on the comics and the stule is so very cool

I saw Hellsing, that was pretty cool, wish there was more of it since it was quite choppy as far as the storyline went...

The Ghost in the Shell TV series isn't bad, not as good as the movie (duh).

Akira is probably a benchmark by which all others will be measured, I don't think you'll be able to find more vivid visions of ultra-tech-super-cities than that.

Ra Xephon is a cool one I've been watching, very similar to Neon Genesis, but the style is way better IMO, and it makes slightly more sense.

i just read all the posts and now i fell dumb, i only recognized like 4-5 names or shows........ two of those from X-play(Ghost in the Shell, and Full Metal Alchmist). But the few anime shows i watch that i like are Iny-yasha and Gundam Seed(only because Gundam Wing isnt on T.V. anymore and i havent seen the original Gundam) but i like lots of the cartoons on teletoon like Venture Brothers, Undergrads, Harvey Birdman, man those make me laugh really really hard.

inyuahsu (sp) is pretty good and outlaw star as well although they took it off but if you wanna a really good anime check out "X" all i know is its a series and one of them is called X its thge only one the video store had..its basically about heaven gaurdians and earth(hell) gaurdains and they battle it out its insane...I used to be into anime alot but anymore i just watch it to kill time late at night....o yea dragon ball z is a classic and GT is pretty good.

everything done by miazaki is awsome. check out all the films he's done. good art, good storys (not so much on howels moving castle). just excellent.

and too many others to list. watch wgn on saturday morings, they have some good animes. i actually like their choices over cartoon network. sometimes it feels as if they are trying to hard to pick out good shows.
