    Has it affected me? Slightly....
*I no longer bother to mow my yard twice a week, once every 2 weeks will do just fine...

*I used to commute about 18 miles each way to work (I know it is not really that far); but I also used to drive a jetta, I was in gas miliage heaven. Since my boyfriend gave me the jeep cherokee I went from filling up once every 10 days or so to filling up almost twice a week. Being that he lives much closer to my work, maybe 4 minutes, I have been staying at his place ALOT (although the pool, work out center, cable tv, cantral air, and high speed internet might also have something to do with it). I honestly belive that I have more money now not working then i did have working (gas, babysitter, lunch ect)

*My boyfirned who just bought (like less than 2 months ago) a new jeep cherokee has now decided that he wants some sort of hybrid car or at least an economy car.. Guess who gets to do all the "shopping" and test driving?

*being that it takes more then $30 to fill up my tank each time leaves alot less money for slurpees and magazines (bummer). I had always budgeted 30, then whatever was left over when the automatic shut off clicked was mine for above items.

*I have to drive from Pittsburgh to Philly on average every 4 weeks or so... With the price of gas (about 70 round trip), and the toll prices (44 round trip), not to mention the 5-6 hour drive; it is now cheaper to fly southwest. Boy am I glad they came to the burgh. go figure

*having to pump gas more often also means having to take my "baby brother" along more often, I really can not stand the smell of gas. I wish I lived in Jersey..

I say we all go to AO-CANADA, so that we will have the illusion of paying less for a tank of gas

Biodiesel is currently the most feasable solution as an alternative fuel source for the ICE. Problem is less than 5% of the U.S. auto market is diesel...
And, In NJ, I can't find a single pump station that has BioDiesel, the nearest one I can find is a farm supply place, 130 miles away in PA.

There is a place about 10 miles away that will sell us a 55 gallon drum of B100, and they won't deliever.

Well, how large are the tanks in the 'burb? Ya could go there, pump 40 gallon into the tanks and then pump the remaining 10 into jerry cans and then give them the 55 gallon drum back.

I was just going to say that...........

BTW, no one mentioned this. There is ONE little bitty good side to this. Now maybe this mess will spur some creative innovation - either on the fuel side, or the mechanical side.

As far as hybrids go, I read somewhere that if 90% of consumers drove hybrids, we would be in this same mess again in 6 years. It has been fiscally sound to own and drive automobiles with combustin engines for 100 years.... maybe we are reaching the point where the time has come for the "Next big thing"

Well, I don't drive the Burb that much, and really drive the Beetle much more.

The beetle has a 14 gallon tank, it needs gas about every two weeks...

The brub would be awesome if I could have a mount that would use a 55 gallon drum as a fuel tank... that was an idea I kicked around for the Jimmy.

or you can buy a few drums and haul em back home, and eventually you can make your own drum speedball field the only problem is getting the land...

Buy the 55 gallon drums, get a siphon pump and fill it up at home. Once you're done with the can you can sell it or scrap it. The place you bought it from might even take it back or charge you a deposit. Some people, like me, buy them for burn barrels. But then again you need to live outside of the city limits to burn your paper trash...

                    I traded my 4 cylinder for a 275HP V8 4WD SUV... that's how I reacted to the gas prices.

I eagerly await readily available ethanol or bio-diesel.

You guys want to hear some good news.

China is offering to buy Venezuala's oil and cover the cost of shipping, thus taking away 8-12% of the U.S's total oil.

                        Fun Fun Fun

Yet, in this country, congress wont allow drilling in parts of Alaska because some trees will be cut down and some carabou will be displaced.
