It hasn't really affected my lifestyle as my parents still pay for my gas , but I remember when gas was $.97 a gallon. That wasn't even that long ago...

Wait, you remember when gas was 97 cents and your parents still buy your gas? Gas hasn't been 97 cents in the Pittsburgh, PA area since the mid 90's.

I'm 16. I wasn't using the gas then, but I do remember it, it was probably 8-ish years ago.

About 12 years ago gas was $0.80 a gallon, will it be $9 a gallon in twelve more years? Probably sooner than that! Our UK/European friends already pay about $5/6 a gallon!

I have not bought any gas since May this year! Now I fill up at KBR for free. Free for me anyway...i'm not sure how much YOU are paying for that though KBR charges the government about $35+/- every time we walk through the mess hall door, even if you just grab an apple and leave. I can only imaging how much the gas is!

They pay that much in Europe because of taxes. We pay gas tax to (ever wonder why their is no sales tax on gas) just not nearly to the same extent.
So if we are paying $0.75 a gallon with a $0.25 tax it's $1.00 at the pump. In Europe say they're paying $0.75 a gallon and $4.25 in taxes it's $5 a gallon at the pump. If gas prices go up to $3 a gallon in the U.S. we are paying $3.25 a gallon and Europe is now paying $7.25.

In other words we are not catching up to Europes high gas prices, they're getting reamed just as hard as we are. Their only saving grace is because of the high prices for a long time they are more reliant on mass transit and carpooling so they are not affected as much by high prices.

The European lifestyle is much different. Families don't own a pickup truck, SUV, sports car and then cars for each of the kids. They own 1 to 2 cars per household and anything over that means you have more money than you know what to do with.

And the reason for that is, like Pyro said, they tax the hell out of the fuel and force people tu use mass transit and other methods of transportation. They also have much more stringent emission requirements, which drives up the cost of the vehicles and the fuel.

It's a simple solution, not all that hard to make and can run in our current cars (especially newer cars).
I am in agreement with you for the most part.

Seems to me like the reason that the "cornahol" idea doesn't work out is that it actually costs more to make than the energy it produces.

I feel like Methane is the answer. It is naturally produced, generally just burned off or vented as a by product and just about any car can easily be converted to run on it.
It doesn't produce as much horsepower per litre, but I we need to rethink our "car lifestyle" here in America anyway.

The only thing in my life that's changed is the amount of complaining I'm hearing from SUV owners.

Gas prices blow. I am spending around $400 a week for fuel. And that is when gas is a $2.50 a gallon. I just passed a place today and reg was up to $3.40 a gallon by the end of the month I will be spending $2000 a mont for gas.
