none of my jobs have actually been crappy. it's the people who make my job crappy. i've worked in retail for most of my experience. i left sam's club because of too much heavy lifting. i worked at old navy which was fun but i took a major pay hit and they didn't give me many hours. none at all for a few weeks during the dead part of the summer.

left target because i was unappreciated and taken advantage of. they had me working electronics and entertainment by myself during holiday season. idiots. combine the locked cabinets, the register, and the fact that electronics questions are more complicated than those in other departments and it's impossible for me to man that area myself and get everything done. i always had a crowd around the register waiting for me. luckily most of my customers saw how harried i was and were very patient.

had a temp job doing data entry for about a month. that was ok. temping is rough when you're looking for a short term assignment just for the summer like i was though. everyone seems to want to hire temps on a permanent basis. after that got a job working at an insurance company in desktop support. paid extremely well. twice as much as other internships. personally upgraded a couple hundred computers from NT 4.0 to XP Pro (the project was about 1500). they got outsourced so i wasn't able to return to them this year.

so now i'm back in retail. i work at Victoria's Secret. it sucks. ... no. wait. it's totally AWESOME! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Mine would most definitely have to be the Army. Some highlights of my carreer include:

Scooping human feces out of a trash receptacle in a monsoon using only my hands covered in a trashbag.

Laying in a rice paddie for 6 hours covered in human feces.

Being told to suck it up when my fiance was found at home having overdosed on pills and cut herself 62 times. She spent 1 week in intensive care, and 2 months more in the hospital, and they wouldnt let me take time off to go back home (which they owed me anyway) because they needed someone in the office to take the trash out.

Being yelled at for having been living in a tent for two weeks and then coming back to senior personnel who stayed and worked on base only to have the seniors throw a freakin hissy fit because there was no lower enlisted there to clean up after them. I then spent 6 hours after work that day and then work late for the next two weeks scrubbing their dried crap off the toilet and getting their pubes out of their shower because grown men are incapable of cleaning up after themselves.

Add to that all of the things inherent in joining the Army, like loss of basic rights, complete loss of privacy, and abuse of your contract. I have no clue how I made it through all that to get my Sergeant rank. And its still not any better.

I'm right there with my SGT and two years time-in-grade. That's why I went UAV and Intel rather than light infantry, artillery, or MP. Yeah, loss of basic rights and loss of privacy. The Army has changed in my 12 years but there are a lot more people who want to abuse the system so that's been bolted down a lot harder. Fiance in trouble? Oh well, should have married her so she would be covered under your healthcare. And SGT, that's the new Specialist (SPC) since PLDC is no longer required.

Did I mention my contract expires in less than a year?

Damn, they have Chiefs in the Army too?

Reminds me of a guy in my division. Had to leave his fiance, who was in labor, after a difficult pregnancy, to go on a 2 day underway which was nothing more than an opportunity to show a local tv news crew what submarines were all about. The reasoning was that another guy in the division was already on baby leave, even thought he was staying locally, supposed to return from leave the day we were returning from the underway, and it was a normal birth. Then there was the time I was denied the chance by my corpman to go to a doctor for a full week when I had a lump on the side of my leg the size of a golf ball, and my ankle was swollen to almost twice the normal size. Of cource there are the normal gripes of the nukes being given preferential treatment in almost everything, including time off, which means the rest of us have to suck up there slack (read-cleaning and housekeeping) because their job is so much more stressful than ours, never mind the fact that they get payed more for their troubles.

Yes, except they aren't quite the same as your's. Naval Chief's start at E-7, right? Our's are a whole 'nother rank scheme between Enlisted and Officer.

The whole point is this: If she's your fiance and you want to get leave for important stuff, get married. Might as well get the extra pay for housing and separation if you're that close anyhow. Your NCO's can't do anything about it if your wife is in labor, you're in town and there are issues.

Yeah, there have been swelling and stuff like that that happens to nearly every soldier in any branch of service. I ripper my rotator cuff and they still had me slinging M249's out of a 2-ton truck and carrying them to defensive positions.

I almost wished that I went Nuc so I could be safe underwater rather than buried in deserts right now.

I worked in a small fireworks booth. It gets like 115 degrees here in vegas... I had to step outside of the booth to cool down to 115.

As in Warrent Officers? We got those too, but they aren't very common.

My worst job was when I was a mascot. The head weighed litterally 40 pounds, and was the size of those huge beach balls. It also had huge ears that would get hit into stuff, and then I would get yelled at. Because the crazy owner paid $30,000 for the gay suit.

Most times it was over 90 degrees out in this stuffy thing with a fan that didn't work. I'm surprised I never died...

The worst job I had was working at a factory disassembling starter cam assemblies. It sucked! Eight hours a day for five days in the middle of summer with no air conditioning.

Second to that would be around the holidays at Office Max. The Christmas songs playing on repeat can cause someone to have homicidal tendencies.

So I work at the county fair in the food service booths . Its not that bad, u get to eat fries and broken prezels with nacho cheese all day and eat or drink as much of whatever u want, and free fountain drinks, coffee, cappachino(sp?) or hot chocolate all day. The only thing that sucks is working in a wooden shack out in a dirt field in 100+ degree weather selling food to (no offense intended to anyone) the farming hillbillys and rednecks that live in the hills that don't always know how to order from the menu, and like to complain about paying fair food prices(like 3-4x the amount that the same food/drink is anywhere else) when they live on 5 million dollars worth of land. And sitting there for about 5 hours with about 4 people coming to the booth with a 90 year old lady and a mexican woman that doesn't speak english(Its safe to say the customers seen the happiest employee ever when they walked up to the window). The other day there was a toy show and I worked with the old lady and it was just me in her in a 20x5 foot room that had a soda frige, a hot dog roller, a grill, a fountain soda machine, a prezal machine, a coffee machine, a hot chocolate machine, and a big double sink. There was like nowhere to prepare food, or do anything, it was hard to move in there, and it was like 90 degrees that day and there was no fan and just one window and hot things all around you. And I was working for 9 hours and only got to take a 5 minute break to sit down and smoke half a cigarette, then go back to work. It kinda sucked, but at least i ate good. Oh ya, and I only get paid $7 an hour, only on weekends, and not ever day on the weekend and not every week... kinds sucks.
