college admission essay. what was your topic?

its getting close to the time i have to send out college applications, and i am kinda stumped as to what to write about, how long the essay has to be, etc..

so my question is, what did you write about and why?

i'm just looking for some ideas here.

i think that i wrote about the organizations that i was in during high school and also how sports was an important part of growing up. not %100 sure b/c it was more then 3 years ago

well i mean most schools give you topics to choose from atleast the ones i did. But i think i wrote one about how i have matured in high school.

In the end it was about paintbal misrepresentation in the media. It worked though, I got into all of my reach schools

The school will tell you how long they want their essays. Short answers are usually around 100 words, and the long essays are around 500 (mine was exactly 2 pages long). My essay was used to demonstrate the superficiality of the people I knew and why I hated them so much, to be completely honest. I touched on a lot of the subjects I felt strongly about, and avoided the "I do sports and I'm so awesome omfg and then we won and i learned teamwork" and "I learned that helping people is important because once i volunteered to help the elderly" essay types.

If you want it original, just... keep thinking about it. Something will come to you eventually. I was (gasp) stopped at a stoplight when the topic for my essay came to me. I wonder where the connection came in there?

I ignored the topic and wrote about space aliens. Well actually... I wrote an essay about how I didn't like the proposed topic, gave examples of what I thought were better questions... and explained that writing about how I didn't like the topic fulfilled the essay requirements. Then I wrote about space aliens who decided not to enslave the human race because they were too stupid to be useful.
