Accessories , accessories , I love accessories.... You on a budget? Cause this can get real expensive real fast -- but considering you have an A3 style (flat top) I'd get a real nice BUIS (back up - iron - sight) first. I have one from ARMS and one from Troy Industries -- The Troy is superior IMO. It runs about $140 -http://www.gandrtactical.com/troy_files/troy_fbs.htm . Then I'd get a good red dot sight from either EO Tech or Aimpoint : http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/EOTech.html ; http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Page3.html.Originally posted by maxama10anyone know some nice accessories that i should get for my bushmaster?
After that, some type of sling system with a good mount. Single point slings are easy to use and are good for general purpose (providing your not in Iraq). They allow you to transition to a handgun quickly, and works well in home defense senario's (Fighting Zombies)
. After all that, maybe a good Tactical light to mount on your foregrip. The list goes on and on.
But I highly recommend you learn to master the iron sights first, then move onto an optic for greater speed. As far as optics go, I recommend you stay away from high power magnification scopes. Your short barreled AR is not suited to long range work with the exception of popping holes in paper. Assumming you have an M4 barrel (14.5") all you really need is up to a 4x or just a red dot. Red dot sights are best suited to your weapon, and EO Tech is the best IMO.
Good luck,

BTW -- Buy good ammo. AR15's can be very picky. STAY AWAY FROM OLYMPIC !!!!Comment

well, it looks like i'm going to get a savage- http://www.savagearms.com/111gl.htm for the holidays, and an electric clay pigeon thrower, and me and my stepbrother might get a small bushmaster something like this http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/w...wa3f14m4iz.asp
so i guess i'll need to go gather up the guns from their various locations, and take a pic.Comment

I think the AR-15 is the best choice for your average Joe-Citizen. They are by far the easiest to taylor to the needs of the individual, and its lack of recoil allows the user to master the skillset needed to make good hits.Originally posted by kosmoAm I the only one who hates ar-15s? Theyre just so flimsy.
If I were going to Iraq, I'd go with an M4 for general purpose work, and an Accurized AK for the tough stuff. Luckily I don't have to make that choice. lol. The new SCAR in 7.62 x 51mm would also be on the list.
There is something to be said for the design -- its been out there for how many years?

I figure this is a good place for this question. Has anyone heard about the M468? It's a M4 chambered to shoot 6.8 instead of 5.56. It's made by Barret and is supposed to be real popular with goundpounders who have had the chance to play with them in Afganastan. Supposedly all you need is a new barrel and bolt, otherwise it's all stock M4. They do make special magazines for the new ammo, but the stock mags will work too. Last I heard, they weren't sure whether they were going to go into production or not, but that was over a year ago. Anyone else hear anything?Die Screaming

I built the first 300 rifles when I worked at Barrett. They are still sitting in the Barrett vault waiting on Remington to produce enough ammo to sell with the rifles.Originally posted by EagleI figure this is a good place for this question. The 6.8mm cartridge was developed by 5th SF in Afghanistan to add more Oomph to the M16/M4 rifles.

IMO -- the 6.8 is going to be a limited issued item. If anything, you'd see it in the SF role along with some counter sniper mission specific deployments. The 5.56 caliber round is still too widely used to switch over to 6.8 for regular Army/Marines. But like anything else. politics may have a hand in this story in the end.

The 6.8 was field tested by SF and SEALS in ATO, while promising, it showed no major significant advantage over the 5.56mm, while lessening magazine capacity. SF has ended their testing.
If you want ideas for accessories, just check out my carbine. Everything on that is an accessory.....except the lower receiver shell

I used to have one. It's a Stevens model 17, full choke, holds 2 rounds in the clip, not that common but not an expensive gun at all. it's a great slug gun but don't run steel shot through it. I got the Stevens for my 12th birthday.Originally posted by OneEyedPimp
