    Just got my first car!

Here it is, a 2002 Eclipse GT
For my first car I absoulutely love it. It's perfect, it's got like a his/hers style transmission, the fun of shifting or the laziness of automatic.
I got it for 12500 and it has 54000 miles on it. KBB says thats about the retail value for one.
    A couple questions though.
Anybody have a carfax account so I can check it's history?
I also only got one set of keys and it has a chip in it so I can't make copies, only through the dealer. How much does that cost approximatly?
I knew not what I did but am now edumacated

hmm, nice . did you pay for it, or did your parents? did you split the cost?

i dont have my own car yet but i drive a 98 volvo... or (oh god) a 95 van. your car > mine.

the cost of the keys is pretty subjective. when i got copies for the volvo it was fairly cheap, maybe $15? but then again it doesnt have a chip or any electronics. the guy i talked to said if it did, theyd have to write the code and flash it on to a chip to put in the key along with making the key itself, so it would cost a lot more (im not sure exactly how much). it really depends on the dealer, i guess.

My stepmom paid $70 for an '92 Infiniti Q45 key. It has something like that on it. She had to wait for it from another dealer because the local one didn't have the equipment.

It's actually kind of split between my parents
I put 1600 of the 4000 down payment. Then I pay 45 a week(180 a month) and I think my parents are covering insurance. It works, I can afford it pretty easily and I love the car.

Are you going to be able to afford it if you go to college? Remember to add in gas money and maintenance costs as well... But it is nice. Does it have the 6 cyl or the 4 banger?

Did you pick out the car? I always thought the new eclipse's were more chick cars than anything, but thats just because like every girl at my school has one. Did you buy it through a dealer or private, and no offense but that seems kinda high price for that car. kbb retail really doesnt mean much since you usually get it for a couple grand less.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

kosmo- it's v6, my dad was showing me the 'sportmatic' option and how to keep it at performance RPMs for speed
I picked it out used from a dealer, pre owned certified. It was the only car in my price range and I like it.

Troen-...how do you know I have a shocker?

Beaver- I really don't care if it's chick-ish, I think it's sick and it's fast, It doesnt matter to me.

Famous last words. I really hope you are careful in that thing but knowing the mind of a 17 year old it won't be long before you wrap yourself around something. Do us all a favor and make sure you wear your seatbelt and keep your insurance up to date so the other drivers are covered too. Oh and when your fingers are hovering over your keyboard ready to type something witty in response to this, keep this in mind... you keep telling us how fast it is. I wish you all the luck in the world, God knows I needed when i was your age.

Of all the stupid stuff I did in cars.

[memory] Powerslideing my moms Metro( ) into parking spots beside other cars. Doing the same with my cousins Integra. Jumping 4-wheeler ramps with my Nissan Frontier. Driving 55 in the field behind my house and then pulling the handbrake on my POS 240 and doing 360's until the car stopped.[/memory]

The only time I had a wreck was when I tried not to hit a cat.
I was in a Civic doing 5mph UNDER the speed limit going to work. I see a cat a little ways down the road walking toward me in the middle of the road. I start to get over(read: not swerving) and right when I get to the cat my pass tire drops off the road. I pull the car back up on the road and start to go off the other side. I turn the other way and go off the right side of the road and into a culvert where my car flips 1 and 1/4 times landing on the pass side and staying like that. I shut the car off, open the drivers side door and crawl out through the drivers side(the only window that didn't break). I stand on the drivers side of the car and shut the door and look to see where I'm going to jump off to make sure that there wasn't any poision Ivy or snakes. Walk up to the road. Thats when I started to shake.
