Santa is getting me a carbine?

I have found my Christmas present! I was looking at AR-15 pistols, SBR's, and carbines. A few Mini-14's and M1 carbines even. But I found what I am getting! I'm going to go pick up my Beretta CX-4 Storm tomorrow. It is a CQC carbine.

Mine will have a barrel shroud, top picatiny rail, and an eotech holographic reflex sight.

I liked the design but at first was put off by the pistol calibers but the reviews were really wonderful and I must say that it has a wonderful feel to it. Muzzle velocities are about 33% higher than the relative pistols. Reviews said it is a CQC dream and many prefer it over the MP-5's. It uses the same pistol ammo mags as my 92 F/S and comes with two 15 round magazines. I was not thrilled about that either but there are 20 and 30 round mags available that will also fit in my pistol too.

Now if it just came in a 40 gigawatt plasma version...

    Ho! Ho! Ho!

I prefer to fire handgun ammo from a handgun.

I've shot the MP5 and Storm, and the Storm isn't even close. Then again, Im not a fan of Beretta stuff, having put a lot of rounds through 92s.

Frankly, given its stock mag capacity, its really no better than a pistol. For CQB, the additional muzzle velocity doesn't mean much.

You want a CQB monster, get a nice semi shotgun, or a shorty AR. The terminal ballistics of the 5.56 are much better than a 9mm or .40.

That being said, for plinking, it'll do just fine. Just don't go fooling yourself thinking that its a serious weapon.

Here is a good CQC weapon. Note, this is not my AR.

Oh, I'm not saying it is a heavy hitter. I do like Beretta's though and this has a nice feel to it. The higher muzzle velocities were proven at short CQC ranges but it really is not that big of a factor. I was originally going to get a carbon AR-pistol but then I have to order it and by the time I "fix" it and pay ATFB stmps, etc....we are well into an expensive little package. Plus this is light enough that the wife or daughters could even shoot if they wanted to. Yeah, 15 stock rounds is not impressive but they do have 30 round mags too. If nothing else, it is a sharp & fun plinker.

I saw the civilian P-90's are out also but double the cost of this plus some extra...still eyeing those .50 Beowulfs too!

WTF is CQC? and ummm what exactly do you use that thing for? My local gun dealer has some contraption like that, and another handgun that looks alot like a tec-9 and i often wonder WTF do you use them for? is it just OMFG factor? like you want a scary looking gun or what? It looks a but large to be consealed; so what are the other uses? I dont get it....

                _EDIT_
btw im a hunter, and not "anti gun" but i do think that any one who sells a firearm in a way that bypasses any federal or state law on gun sales should spend the next 20 years of his life in prison. I own a varity of firearms, and would one day like to pick up a pistol permit (in NY it takes a bit of time). I just dont understand these hollywood style firearms; they seem built to intimidate which of course only makes non-gun owners fear the rest of us more. So again why?

I do not have to justify owning a firearm which is legal to own and operate.

CQC = close quarters combat. This could be either offensive like military/police or defensive as home protection. The fact that this is a pistol cartridge carbine suits it better for just fun and plinking and also home defense (you dont want to shoot a .50 Beawulf an an intruder and put it through the neighbors house too). You could hunt with it, but it better be something small.

Why get one? The same reason you buy a paintball marker, because you want too. Intimidating weapon? If you think this is intimidating, you may want to reconsider that military occupation choice, LOL. This is essentially an overgrown pistol. It is built nicely though and just so happens to use the same mags as my pistol! So high-cap mags all around!

You guys need a pistol permit? Ack! I don't even need a background check or waiting period, etc...just walk in and drop my CHL down and pay for the firearm. Of course you always get to abide by the extensive ATFB rules (that is why i'm not buying the AR-pistol at this time).

Look at it this way also; you ask why need something like this; other people who are against guns completely would ask why you need a gun for hunting. You don't need to hunt, go to the grocery store! It is all perspective.

I like the way gun manufacturers are starting to design their weapons. I hunt and for slogging around in the woods for several hours at a time, the good old fashion wood stocked 30-30 does the job, but when doing some serious target shooting the new molded stocks and grips are fantastic.

A friend of mine bought a Beretta Neo, and that is the most comfortable pistol I have ever held.

My six year old daughter bought me a .357 snubbie titanium framed revolver for Christmas its pretty nice. I carry it in place of my Glock .40 now as a matter of fact. I do need to rewrap it at some point here.

Santa was going to buy me a Kimber, a Sig, or an H&K in .357 Sig (obviously the Kimber would have been .45) this past weekend but the salesperson did not seem interested in selling me one. I'll wait till the next gun show I think.

Hey, me too! What caliber? Mines just a 9 mm. No need for anything too large when it's too small to hold with two hands.
