To the German Language: The Sentence (spell) is the Hard Part. If someone talks to quick tell him to speak slower so you will understand it.

Ich moechte deutsch rede. I want to speak German.

Wo muss ich hingehen? Where do i have to Go?

Ich moechte ein Bier bestellen. I want to order a Beer.

Ich haette gerne einen Hamburger. I would like to have a Hamburger.

i really wanna learn german, is it difficult ?

Well if you can speak english you can speak german. I found it pretty easy after a few horrible attempts you should get it

It really should be:

"Ich heisse "Maggot6". Ich will in Deutsche sprechen."

Wollen is a model verb, which moves the "standard" (for lack of better terms) verb to the end and puts it in the infinitive form. For example, "Ich will Gulaschsuppe essen."

It should be. Ich hei&e Maggot6. Ich will Deutsch sprechen. = I want to speak german.
or
Ich will auf Deutsch sprechen. = I want to speak in german.
or
Ich will die Deutsche Sprache lernen. = I want to learn the german language.
or
Ich will lernen auf Deutsch zu sprechen. = I want to learn to speak in german.

I may be wrong with the spelling.
Believe it or not I grew up in Germany/Austria. I spent a total of 14 years there starting in first grade. The majority of this time was spent in the Stubai valley near Innsbruck Austria. Thankfully I've unlearned most of what I knew of that language. I probably won't be able to tell anyone how to do it right but I can still see when something is wrong.
I personally dislike the language. For one it has one of the least attractive pronunciations that I know of and for two 14 years of being disliked simply for being American has left a bitter taste in my mouth for anything European. The only advantage of being bi (or some would consider tri-lingual as Fred pointed out ) I can think of is that I can cuss you out something awful on this forum and not the swear filter, a mod or a web based translator would leave you with a clue of what I said. But then....if the person I'm talking to doesn't understand it, what real advantage is that?


I'll be glad to help out though, when I have time, until some one smart then me ( shouldn't be long ) comes along.....?

Ok, seeing as to how there are real German speakers here...

I can understand everything that has been said, however, looking at my previous sentence, I can't write correctly!

Bornl33t, can you give a few tips? I have alot of problems, with almost everything.

Again, accusative, genative, nominative, and dative can be a start. That, or just correcting my sentence structure.

Edit - in a nutshell, I've been here long enough to understand everybody. However, I can't process how to speak with German grammar automatically, however, the vocabulary is fluently processed without a single english thought.



Oh, and for soopa, and anyone that wants to know...The only way you can truly learn to speak a language is to live in it. I've taken 5 years of French, and I taught (painfully) myself German for the months before I came here. There is nothing like waking up, going to France and feeling all good that you know French, to have people look at you like "what the **** are you doing? Are you actually trying to speak?" It is easy enough to fool your way to speaking on the internet, or to non native speakers that you can speak the language but no matter what, you are more ignorant than you think.

Learning new languages is fun, and almost a mental high for the biggest part of the learning curve

you know, when i was in germany this summer, we were at my aunts house in rosenheimm (sp..) and one of her friends were over.. and im just sitting back, drinking a raddler, and they start to talk about me, you know, simple stuff, age, grade, school stuff, me learning german, and then she says (in german) "you know, he doesent talk much, is he feeling well?" and then i said "ja ich bin sher gut, ich verstehe viel aber ich spreche nicht so viel" then i sat back in my chair and took another drink and she had the deer in the headlights look.

it was cool i dont even know if its gramatically correct, i dont remember exactly what i said either.. but it was something along those lines.

I am near Mainz, in Rheinland Pfalz. Thanks alot for correcting me, because German people never do it. True, I always speak with an english sentence structure.

I should'nt worry to much on the small errors you make when speaking german. It's the same for me, writing in english here but i speak and write dutch so it might be a little "off" but people understand what i'm saying. Most of them get it and most germans speak english aswell. I stayed one weekend in germany, and it's suprising how fast you pick up german, even our german friends were amazed i could speak that well.

I must admit i am bilingual by birth. The region of the netherlands where i live has a own language that looks like dutch, but is a different language on its own. The funny thing is, even germans understand some of it.

As a American you should pick it up fast enough, english, dutch and german has alot in common. Ow, and if you decide to go there, don't take any markers with you. German law requires them to be stamped by an official company certified to do that, to make them legal in Germany. Without those stamps it is concidered a firearm.

I think what "little ho" is trying to say is that you need to work on sentence structure, and I agree with him. The german sentence structure is WAY different then engilsh. On top of that you can say what you want to say 4 or 5 different ways AND it takes a longer sentence to say it!

The best example of this is when a hollywood movie is translated into german. Does anyone remember Die-Hard with Bruce Willis? In German it doesn't have a single cuss word in it because they need the mouth movment to say stuff to add to the content of the movie.

btw They are making another Die-Hard movie!!!


I think Maggot6 is right about about living in the Country to learn it's language. Hey it worked for me.... sorta! Hey guess what...my parents still live in the Rheingau. The town they live in is Geisenheim
