It really depends on what state your in to tell you the truth, the driving test for florida is easy to the point my 7 year old sister could pass, you park, drive around a parking lot, 3pt turn and then youre done, no more....no less...its really sad how little it takes to get a liscense now a days....nothing in the least to worry about at all..

Bleachit - Youre telling me, I drove for 3 years on a permit, mainly because I was too lazy to go down and wait in line to get my liscense...but yea I hopped in the car, did the turn signal, wipers, brakes thing, and etc....I went parked without hitting cones, drove out to a side road, did a 3pt turn and that was it....it was really pretty pathetic....im like they think that these fresh to a car 16year old kids are ready for real world driving after that, youve got to be kidding me. I dont know which is worse in FL the old people or the soccer moms in SUV's....

I got my license in NY, and I thought the people there were horrible....

moved to florida in January... wow, just wow.

just last night I was almost hit by some crazy person (female) doing a U turn where there is a sign saying not to, when I have a green turn arrow. yeah, she almost drove into me. signs me nothing to these people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, she wasnt particularly old. Age is not a factor, in my experience so far, in the horrible driving in florida.

I don't even have my permit yet, but there was another thread like this a few months ago. One of the best pieces of advice is to overreact (for lack of a better word) to everything you do. Make it very obvious that you are checking your mirrors and you are watching your speed.

NC drivers are terrible. They cannot drive in rain or snow (last year it started to lightly snow and people just pulled off to the side of the highway and waited for it to stop) and most of the roads should've been fixed 5 years ago when the potholes got over a foot deep.

            Good luck.

              Funny driving test story time.

I learned to drive on a manual. But for the driving test, you had to bring a car that the tester could reach to the brake pedal. Which ruled out *any* manual car.

So I borrowed my Dad's Caddy.

Everything went well, until I went to shift into second. The tester was not amused.

              /Passed anyway.

i dunno where you live, but here is california they dont test you on parallel parking.
i'v had my liscence for a little over a year, and i havent had to parallel park once yet. maybe i'm lucky?

pay attention to signs, lights, your speed, and what the instructor says.

i was failed once because the instructor thought i turned left on a red. this was across a 4 way intersection with me turning onto a three lane highway during rush hour. its physically impossable to do what i was accused of, because i would have been smeared all over the road. the instructor didn't even tell me i did anything wrong when i did it; i found out when he went through and filled out the form. WTF!
i went back and checked after the test to see if it was even possable. it was early enough in the morning that the sun was shineing into the shrouds around the lights, and made the red one glow redish, when the green one was obviously alot brighter. that bastard can't even drive himself.

apparently i didnt need to take a driver's test to get my license. Driver's Ed around here gives you a waiver telling the dmv that i've passed all driving requirements and that i should just get my license and skip all the testing.

I had to take driver's ed - at that time offered by the school, 20 class days and 6 hours driving if I recall.

                      Then pass a written test

but they are still going to make you take the driver's test at the dmv?

Make sure whatever car you drive isn't modded either. I got points taken off because the automatic shifter on my ex's car at that point had an aftermarket handle on it.
