I want to shoot an elk

    Couple questions here:

    What do I need?
    What gun is best?
    Where do I go?
What do I do when I kill it?

Find/Call a reputable guiding service. I would think the bare bottom line is a .270 (and I love my .270) but, if you're buying a gun for just this purpose, would recommend going to something a bit more potent.

It depends on where you want to go and where you live. Alot of times you have to get in a Lottery for the tags. You definatley want a good guide. It also depends on what Altitute you'll be at I've gone a few times and the first time I was kinda out of shape and suffered badly for it. I've gone to Dubois Wyoming both times and loved it.

for 1300 u can usually shoot 2 elk through most guide services. Id say go to a local outdoors show and they should have a ton of guides there. The bad thing about most guides is it really isnt hunting. A lot of them just drive u around on a quad until they see one, then stop and let u shoot. You also have to be careful which guide u pick. Ask around because some are really good, and some really like to screw u over.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

If you have the money try to get up to Wyoming Montana or Colorado through a guide or with friends if theyre experienced.

So you want to shoot an Elk, huh? Why? Just woke up today and said : "Wow, some Elk needs killin'!" The question is; do you need to shoot an elk? Ask your doctor if shooting elk is right for you. I want to shoot slow drivers and liberals, but you don't see me starting threads about it. LOL

A 30.06 can handle most game and is the most popular, versatile hunting round available. As for actually shooting an elk, have someone guide you (either a service or an experienced friend), because field dressing big game is a pretty nasty job, especially if you haven't been properly taught in person!!

Hunting big game is challenging and rewarding. Good luck. Shoot me an email or pm me if you have any more questions about firearms. I have been an avid hunter my whole life.

ok, i'll make sure i have my running shoes on. how would you suggest killing one with a knife? i figured i could hide in a treee and then jump down on it. i'd really like to ride it for a little bit, but i will eventually stab it.
