      i would look into a .300, .308 or the 7mm mag rounds. Most of the shots your gonna be making are probably long shots depending on where you go. Take a hunter safety course first to see if you even wanna pursue it further.

        I used to hunt Elk ever year when I lived in Utah. 30.06 worked for me on more then one occasion. Thing to remember... if you shoot it, pray to god that it is near a road/or place of access that you can pull your truck/4 wheeler up to. Those animals can get awful big and heavy.

        Guided tours are for wimps that pretend to be hunters. Why don't you go fishing in a fish hatchery.

        Also if you don't know what to do with it after you kill it... you need to learn before you go. Plus no matter how much fun they say it is, gutting an animal isn't that exciting or clean.
