ok im usually the type to hold it together..heads up..tough guy attitude..wear the dark glases at funerals..try and hold it together..no emotion type...its hard, but i try..show no weakness right?? be a man??..yeah thats how i was raised..but a several months ago i was in college, i had just graduated, gotten an associate degree in graphic design, i was workin on my bachelors..non stop schooling since i graduated high school, i was on a roll, it felt great..the one day i wake up and my vision is blurry, i hadnt been eating or sleeping very much so i went to bed..keep in mind i wore contacts due to myopia, and had horrible vision to begin with..so the next morning i wake up and put my contacts on..right eye, left eye...hmm my left eye was blurry..could see out of it..i made sure the contact was in the eye..i took it out, cleaned it..i put it back in..still could see..wtf?? i tried everything, i must have cleaned my eye and contact i dont know how many times..i went to the optomatrist later that morning, he said i had a detached retina..i went to emergency..i was like wtf? no way..not me..the hospital had no retina specialist, the following morning i had an apoinmtment with a retina specialist,,he said the retina was torn, not detached, torn was better than detached....i had sugery in 2 days..when the surgery came around, turns out my retina had detached..i had the first surgery..i had to watch these videos about the possiblility of me not being able to ever see. i shook it off, not me..not me..second surgery, the detachment was one of the worst the surgeon had ever seen..the eye healed..i knew my vision wasnt like before..i kept shaking it off..ill just get a new contact lens...the left eye with the detachment was the better of my 2 eyes.., i had dropped out of school...later found a decent job..i avioded going to the optomatrist, i feared what they would say..i finally went..nothing they could do, they gave me contacts, but it was useless in my left eye..still i told my self i was good..untill i finally decided to go to the dmv for the vision test to get my DL..i walked through the front doors, saw the eye chart right in front of me..i walk up to the counter, all i see is a blur..i see one letter, the large one at the top of the chart, i did an about face and walked out, not a word...it finally hit me.i couldnt aviod it..no more bs..i couldnt drive..id never get better, id never go back to college...years of school, thousands of dollars down the drain...i still dont kno what im going to do..stay at my job, with no chance of advancement due to my vision issues..live at home, no chance of ever owing a vehicle..i sit up and think about all this..and i ask my self, why me?? ive read all i needed on the subject of detached retinas..and none of it is hopeful..stem cell research..will take how many years, decades?? im so down nowadays..i try and not show it..but im alot less social..i cant see my freinds..no wheels..stuck at home on my days off...i work so much i never play ball..i have to work to pay credit cards and loan payments, cell phone, if i ddnt have bills, id curl up in a ball and sell it all, and not give a damn...i dont care anymore...it doesnt amtter, no hope, screw fate....aint life a b****? yeah....

I see your point. Maybe rent Dare Devil for inspiration? You got to still have a little humor left in you.
Life does have some ups and downs. I took a .22 cal round just below my right eye years ago. I almost lost the eye, blind for days. Sucked big time. I was involved in a car accident last Sunday. Damaged both my cars and my garage. Long story. Anyways my head got banged up pretty good and Monday I fell off a trailer, head first on the pavement. All I could do is laugh as I layed on the street. Now that I'm an inch shorter
I will fit in the mustangs better when they are fixed.

Man that sucks big time bro, Ive worn contacts for years and suffer from my retina deteriorating in both eyes, im currently 19, and if I cant find a way to get into surgery by the time im 22, ill be blind by around 40, completely... The only thing I have saving me is trying to slow it down until I can do the surgery and I count the day...people really dont take the time to notice things like eyes being gone, until it happens to them, im sorry bro, but try to keep a decent outlook and hope for the best man...Comment

thats a dick thing to say.a little help? i'm not trying to be a dick because that's a totally ****ty situation you are in, but how are WE going to help you?
if you believe in god, start getting more involved in your church. If you dont believe in God, try to start volunteering for the poor or needy. Try to volunteer for something that you like doing. Its a very rewarding feeling at the end of the dayComment

Back in high school one of my best friends woke up blind. Both retinas had detatched. Then he found out it was because of a degenerative disease and his whole body was falling apart, and he wouldnt live to be 30.Kosmo For President '08, '12, '16... However long it takes

if what you have to say doesnt help, dont post.
sometimes its just nice to talk to people when stuff happends. even just on just some random forum. when people relate, it brings back some humanity to your situation, i would know, many people have related to some poor situations me, and numerous others have shared.
you really dont know how cool it is to have a group of people willing to listen and relate to you at anytime until something crappy happends.

From the sound of it you still have one eye. You should be able to drive, and why would not being able to see out of one eye prevent your education. There are plenty of totally blind deaf or otherwise handicapped people being successful in society. There are plenty of people worse off than you. Of course it's going to be rough but the world is far from over. If you can't do graphic design look into other computer designs. You have a lot of life to live, it's silly to dwell on something you cannot change. Do your job, go back to school, don't give up.Comment

thanks guys
Yeah thanks guys. I just had to get it off my chest...the reason I can't drive is because my left eye is useless and my right eye is 20/80 with corrective lenses..my vision is horrible..like I said I can't make out any letters on an eye chart cept the super large one...and yeah it helps to have people who just listen...thanks...BEO MAFIA

Is there anyway to do lasik for your other eye to improve your vision?? Or ANY other possible surgery you can do to possibly better yourself and your vision, it sucks man, lasik or some other eye surgery seems to be the only hope for alot of people these days, atleast your not fully blind, so try to keep your head up, im sure with how popular and demanding eye surgery is getting, there will soon be a procedure to fix it, if not already...try to live life to the best that you can..Comment

even though i dont really like you, im sorry. thats a really bad situation, i wish things could be better. id say just keep looking and hoping for a cure or surgical procedure, and remember that things could always be worse. at least youre still alive and its only one eye, you could always get lasik on the other and have okay vision. put an eye patch on your left eye and say youre a pirate
there always still is a chance for surgery or a cure for your left eye.
i got into an accident yesterday, a rear ender, not much damage to either car but more importantly it ruins my record. but it does help to remember that things could be worse, that same day i passed a wreck where a guy died after he hit a tree on the highway and completely flattened his car.Originally posted by REDRTI see your point.
