    Project SKS - ChiCom plinker...

In my never ending pursuit to modify everything I get my hands on -- I have now turned my attention to my plain-jane Norinko SKS. I added a longer polymer Monte Carlo stock to allow for better overall balance considering the Chicom SKS's were sized to fit small dudes -.- . A spare sling from my AR15 and just recently upgraded to a red dot from Bushnell. The problem with all SKS's is that they do not have any provisions for optics.
This is solved by adding the "SKS Scout Mount".

This aftermarket item allows a small weaver rail to replace the standard rear iron sights with no permanent modifications. Then all you have to do is find a suitable sight or scout scope. The nice feature about this mount is that you have a rear notch grooved under the rail if you do need to use irons. So far it all fits very tight and looks high quality. The ultimate test is how it all holds zero after a couple hundred rounds of Wolf 7.62 -- we'll see. BTW - I hated the standard irons, plus my eye's are going so the red dot was my logical choice.

I may be adding a small rail for a tactical light -- maybe the M3X. But thats for another thread. Now if I could only find those battery powered chop sticks ... hmmm......

Dang that sight is far forward. I suppose theres no way around that without something to alter the ejection trajectory, is there. Hmmm.

Well -- you could put a shell deflector on it, but then you couldn't load with stripper clips. Fuctionally speaking , the red dot's performance won't change if you moved it anyway. It would look better mounted on the rear reciever cover, but that stinks as a scope base. I guess thats why they called it a "Scout Mount" .

Pretty nice for an SKS. I like those Monte Carlo stocks on them. I still have to finish up my heavy plinker and get some pics.

Springfield armory tends to picture their M-1As with red dots mounted in a forward position too. Also, I have seen plenty of aimpoints and eotechs mounted forwards on long guns. Not sure if it has something to do with focusing on the target, but there are those who favor that positioning. It works fine with those kinds of optics, as there is no minimum eye relief distance with them.

Ive never been a big fan of that style. It just makes it a little harder for me to concentrate on the target, I have to be more conscious about not fixating on the sight. Not much, but enough to bother me.

I have my EOTech mounted forward on my Storm, so that the charging handle is kept clear, works like a dream. As long as it is not a magnifying optic, you should be good with the forward mount.

Finished working on this tonight (crappy pic):

The Arsenal SA M7A1 AK-47, Made in the USA for Bulgaria! As you may be able to tell, it has had some work done to it. Dremels are not just for modeling I forgot to throw out the Bulgarian bayonet I have with it, but the Kukri gets the job done too, LOL. And just to keep with the weapons design roots, I had two cases of 7.62x39mm hollow points (Wolf) delivered fresh from the Tula Ammunition Works in the Motherland. This is a CQB and mid range shooter. It has (7) 30 round Bulgarian waffle mags but a nice ChiCom 75/100 round drum would do her fine.

PTR-91 or actual HK? I'd say that has about a 8.5/10 zombie knock out rating.

Actually, the best zombie weapon has been proved to be a light crowbar with a nice edge. Read the survival guide.

Don't believe everything you read, everyone knows that you might be infected from the blood of zombies. It is always preferable to kill them at range rather than in hand to hand.

Oh your slacking in your zombie weapons ID -- think FAL, but in this case a DSA SA-58. Even with a .308 it only gets a 8.5 for a shoulder fired weapon? - lol.
