A buddy and I just started homebrewing last Thursday. It all started when he got a lab position a few months ago. A few of his co-workers and his superior brew their own beer, so it was only a matter of time before he got into it himself. There's a brewery close to my campus which I've been in before, so we split the cost of a starter kit, bought a couple brew kits, and started brewing that night. Here's what we came up with:
On the left is my Raspberry Wheat, and on the right is my friends Honey Weizen. We threw the blow-off tube on his right before this pic was taken, since he needed to fill up his carboy almost to the top to hit 5 gallons:


The fermentation lock. The simplicity of this thing amazes me..it lets CO2 out, but doesn't let air in:

I'd start cramping behind my eyes & then it went down hill from there.
