I hate to be "that guy"... But you're asking questions that if you're asking... you shouldn't be trying this project.Originally posted by AGDloverHOLY CRAP THATS IT!!!! The GT550 matches perfectly!!!
Where can i get me one of thease Calculators? I do want to do more of a wide stack pipe and see if i can make her growl just a little lol.
When you talk about timeing what exactly are you meaning?
Does this engine have a electric start and where can i get replacement parts for it?
Oh And an owners manual I'm sure would be helpful!
First off: http://www.suzukicycles.org/GT-series/GT550.shtml Read up. There's an article there. Read that too.
The calculators are all over the internet. Look for tuned pipe calculator. The pipes aren't easy to make.
I don't grasp what you mean by "wide stack" pipe. Two strokes don't growl, they "rrrringadingginggingdingdingdingdgin BBBrrrrrING a ding ding ding" Think weedwacker, not growl.
To use one of the calculators, you'll need to understand what I mean about timing. Timing refers to when the exhaust and intake ports open in relation to crank degrees.
The macdizzy link is probally more relevant.
The motor is both kick and electric start. This is going to sound REALLY insulting, so please bear wtih me. Your motor has a cover under the carbs, with a really thick wire and a bunch of small wires coming from it. That thick wire leads to a large electric motor. This isn't a question that really "should" need asking.
Parts are cheap and easy, www.bikebandit.com is your friend.
Okey, now that I've probally made you feel bad. This sounds like a fun project. Buy a 4 stroke motor. You'll spend less buying a new GSXR motor instead of having a set of tuned pipes built. (A set of tuned pipes cost $500-1200)
This IS a good motor... If you intend on using it. please treat it right.
Hmm... manhattan Il? I didn't catch that my first time through. You want those same 40hp? I've got a GS550 motor (49hp) that you could scrounge. it wouldn't be free... But I"ll even give you a proper set of headers to go with it. You could get that growl you want from that. And torque... which you won't get from the stroker. ... And what are you doing building a sand rail in illinois anyway :-)Last edited by nerobro; 06-05-2006, 10:48 AM.To be an AGD supporter, one cannot be an AGD bigot. -Nero

I know but figure if i can get it long and wide enough she may growl a little (Still have to be small at the headers to provide back breasureOriginally posted by nerobroI don't grasp what you mean by "wide stack" pipe. GT 750
A short lived Suzuki sport standard. Actually had a pretty good bit of go.
Now I will go back and read the thread to see if I am right.
edit* Knew I had to be close.
I learned to ride on a GT 750. I was very glad to know that other bikes handles better than it did. That was actually the death of it. I ran it off the road several times because it just refused to turn. That last wreck just....well...the forks were never the same after that.Comment
