Ever seen something you cant explain?

Last week I was at work showing a trainee the start-up procedures of one of our combustion turbines. (basically its a jet engine bolted to the ground with a generator attached to the end of it, used to generate about 50 MWs of electricity.) As the rotor winds up and fires are lit in the cans, we then go outside to see if there is any visible emissions coming out of the stack.

Well while we were looking at the stack, I seen this strange rather bright, metallic object in the air high (facing south) over Pearl Harbor. It was about 1/8 the size of a full moon and it was moving in a zig zag pattern. It would change velocity quite rapidly and at times would seem to hover. I asked my coworker "wtf do you see that?" He was studying the object and making comments like "Man, I've never seen anything like that before!" etc.

The odd thing is that this was around 1030 am on a bright blue clear day, and both of us were stone cold sober. I was thinking maybe the heat waves emitting from the stack was playing tricks on our eyes--so I walked in front of the stack and it was still up there--Zig zagging and changing size--but it looked like it was flying under control.

I thought it might have been either a weather balloon or possibly one of those mylar balloons, but it would change direction quite rapidly. It just behaved like someone was flying or controlling it. After about a minute of watching it or so we had to go back inside the control cab to continue our startup, and by the time we got back outside the object was gone.

It kinda struck me as odd as a good friend of mine is an amatuer astronomer (for like 18 years now) and he has shown me all kinds of natural and man-made objects in the sky. (like laser stars, fuel dumps, satelites, missile tests, meteors, comets etc.) When I asked him about it--he just kind of shrugged his shoulders and thought it odd and rare seeing something behaving the way I described--and it being during a clear day--even stranger.

I dont know--I dont really believe in UFO's or anything before but what we observed was very bizarre.

remote control something or other, or a US government secret project. they did at one time have flying saucers, but there was no logical use for them, so the project was scrapped

A few years ago I was outside playing basketball with a neighbor sometime around 11pm. Not sure why we were playing that late but as we were about to head inside we heard a low rumbling noise. At first I thought it was just a plane flying low but the airport was a good 40 miles away and there was not a single light in the sky from the plane. There wasn't much moonlight so you could only see a a blurry object as it passed right over us. It was definitely more than 25 feet long because it still looked rather large when it was a few thousand feet above us. I still can't figure out a logical explanation for it. It was not a commercial or private airplane because it had no lights and did not make any of the usual noises you would expect from an airplane. The noise also didn't get louder as it got over you. You heard the low rumbling, you could vaguely see it pass over, and then suddenly all the noise would stop at once.

I actually considered it was some kind of remote control device, but the way it manuevered seemed to rule that out. I mean it would travel in one direction and then immediately be heading in almost the opposite direction. I admit I was never the best physics student but I would think something manmade to fly like that would be impossible.

That might be, there's also Barking Sands on Kauai which does a lot of missile test launches and "star wars" tests. I've heard stories of missile launches originating from somewhere in Ohio that are intercepted by Aegis class cruisers out to sea around the islands.

From the manuevering we saw, if it is a military project it seems to be very unique and advanced in my unexpert opinion.

well, if its strange and unique, its probably U.S. miltary. we did after all, have a bomb that released bats carrying bombs....

My girlfriend saw something pretty bizarre, too. If you knew the type of girl she was, you would believe her. Anyway, she was on top of her house with her best friend late one night and saw three pretty bright objects - kinda looked like stars.
She said the would fly in a 'V' shape, then fly in a single file line and back to a 'V' shape - until they flew out of sight.

Pretty freakin' crazy, if you ask me.

I concur with a RC aircraft of a sort. Likely civilian, not military (although the Marines do fly an RPV that is not much more than a hobby plane carrying a high resolution camera. There are Marines on the other side of the island from Pearl) As a RC aircraft flyer, model planes can seem to defy physics with their extremely rapid turns.

Clear day, white/silver Monocote covering reflecting the sun...and you have an oddity.

Before you guys say "what about the engine making a lot of noise?" RC electric flyers have come a long way, with Cobalt and other rare earth motors making tremendous RPMs on 12v. At a distance, even the prop noise would be near silent. Remember, they were near a turbine engine winding up and running, which would drown out a LOT of other noises.
