well that guy lied to you...
I am a Weapons Load Crew Chief "Loadtoad" at Luke AFB and I load every jet I perp for flight with flare... every day.
however on the topic of the Phoenix lights, last time they showed up we had a saftey day and the base ceased flying ops well before noon, in all of our units.
On the Topic of UFO's... I know many people I consider FIRMLY grounded in reality who are still baffled to this day about something they clearly saw in the sky. I have yet to see anything that deems me to reevalutate my position of high doubt on the existance of flying saucers/extraterrestial ships visiting our world. After all Eye witness accounts are a single interpretation of the "truth" viewed from a singular and easily tricked point of view.Last edited by edweird; 06-20-2006, 12:45 AM.

That sounds like a plausible explanation. Under the right (unusual) circumstances, something ordinary can be made out to look extraordinary. And your right, the combustion turbine is bit loud,Originally posted by ArmyI concur with a RC aircraft of a sort. Likely civilian, not military (although the Marines do fly an RPV that is not much more than a hobby plane carrying a high resolution camera. There are Marines on the other side of the island from Pearl) As a RC aircraft flyer, model planes can seem to defy physics with their extremely rapid turns.
Clear day, white/silver Monocote covering reflecting the sun...and you have an oddity.
Before you guys say "what about the engine making a lot of noise?" RC electric flyers have come a long way, with Cobalt and other rare earth motors making tremendous RPMs on 12v. At a distance, even the prop noise would be near silent. Remember, they were near a turbine engine winding up and running, which would drown out a LOT of other noises.
not to mention we were both wearing -30db hearing protection as well.
I would think it would have to be military, just for the fact that if this RC aircraft was to go down-- it would have gone down in the ocean or in the harbor itself.
Even so it was just very very odd."They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." --Benjamin Franklin

Woah trippy, I never heard of anything like that."They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." --Benjamin Franklin

I figured you all drop flares at least every once and a while, He even went as far as to say that they would be a fire hazzard!? I am going to have to rail on that fella next time I see him.Originally posted by edweirdwell that guy lied to you...
So... What the hell are those things I see them all the time. they are not any type of conventional aircraft lighting that I know of. The other guy tried passing it off as landing lights of planes on final... I know better than that. My point of view isnt in line enough with your runways for the lights to appear stationary for that length of time.
these things are obviously not aircraft lights, the color and intensity is just so wrong. Not to mention they DONT MOVE.
Tonight about 9:30mst I was at about 33*43'01" 111*59'52" and saw a pair of them (it is not a solid craft spanning the lights. neither were the ones on that one night, I saw those too and these are the same thing) at ~210* probably 40-50 miles out. Looking at my map they may have been as far out as Gila bend.
I know you guys can see those things at Luke... especially when they are more to the west of town. I don't care what they are, they have to get someones attention being that close to luke.
EDIT:
You all havent dropped any dummy bombs on a golf course recently... what gives?

no way! i just google image searched them, and i know what your talking about. i saw i think 3? of them on my vacation to phoenix a few years ago. i thought i saw cell towers or something because the lights were suspended so high in the air, but they went away, and i was watching still, and they never came back on. i thought it odd at the time because i didn't remember seeing cell towers in that direction earlier in the day. and i didn't see cell towers there the next morning. i know i didn't get my directions messed up either because it was straight off my hotel room's balcony. thats weird. i bet it does make you feel uneasy flying there.upgrade fund: $145

Have I ever seen something I can't explain?
Yes... my co-workers. 8 hours with some of them and you'll be a wonderin'!
I was out late one winter's night for a walk... kind of foggy, and very chilly. Everything was very quiet, when suddenly, I hear a loud WHOOOOSH overhead....
It was a hot air balloon, and the guy hit his burner to gain some altitude... almost wet my pants.
That's my X-Files story for the day. Nice thread!

hmm well there's these 2 planes that fly over the lake (between ontario and the usa) at normal plane altitude(which ever that is
but like 3 times faster one passes and then like 4 seconds later another one passes the way the first came from and its always around 11pm i heard from the neighbour that they patrol in the air and the wings actually move up and down abit which makes them go faster or w.e (heh but he maybe crazy
)

Its fairly common for various types of military aircraft to have "variable wing geometry" the wings move back and fourth. Thats what he is talking about.Originally posted by eric_503hmm well there's these 2 planes that fly over the lake (between ontario and the usa) at normal plane altitude(which ever that is

Also as far as the lights... rarely am I alone when I see them and the people I am with just stare and watch and say "there they are again"
I saw them tonight as well, I kid you not. That is how it happens. they are there for a few nights in a row... but about the time you expect they are there they dont show for a few weeks. Its been like that for a very long time... At least 5 years that I am sure of seeing them after the big night.
This time it was 9:17 on the clock in my truck when I noticed them, and they were still there when I drove to the point they went behind a mountain.
This time I had a compass and I got two good bearings about 5 miles apart and I put them to be at about 33* 17' 113*03'. well south west of the city behind south mountain for most of the city. That puts them about 70 miles from where I was... Thats a long way to see something, so that is just an idea of how bright these things are. I want to say that they were not much more than 4-5 degrees up from the horizon, so they would look like anti collision lights on a tower to people.Comment

well be aware that BMGR services not only luke but alot of other .mil bases as well both in this state and others. So even tho LUK was down for the day, they could of been anything from a squadron of A-10's from Davis-Monthan, Harriers from Yuma MCAS, Helos from Fort Hachucicantspellit, or anything from the pansy coast... Also bear in mind alot of ground troops practice out there as well... from HALO guys to TacP controllers. Hell ive seen entire outfits from the army set up shop and train there over the summer to simulate the craptastic conditions that are so similar to Iraq and Afganistan. Hell my unit deployed down there last Feb for a couple weeks and plans to do so again soonish just to keep us on our toes.Originally posted by MoeMagLooking at my map they may have been as far out as Gila bend.

Why won't anyone just say its a UFO? I think it was, of course I haven't seen it but from the description, it sounds like the same thing that millions of other people have claimed to see as a UFO. How big do you think it was, how far away. Could it have even been a remote control aircraft? You smell like dookie... No really though.Comment

Do you mean an Unidentified Flying Object? Cuz thats kinda what people are saying.Originally posted by InfinatyBPSWhy won't anyone just say its a UFO? I personally dont think that the lights are all on one craft. I have seen too many diffrent patterns for them to be "one big one". I think each individual light is its own thing. NO THESE ARE NOT RC aircraft. there is an RC airpark that I was right next to when I took one of the bearings last nigt... its at 33*43'24.8" 112*01'02.86" and that is very near where I keep my horses, and I am used to seeing RC planes doing all sorts of weird things but these are not. these scare me in there abiliy to stay in a fixed position for a very long time.Originally posted by InfinatyBPSWhy won't anyone just say its a UFO? This is what was seen on the night everyone saw them...
This is what I usually see...

I know these are not great pics but let me tell you... in real life these things are just too weird.Comment
