    Is Israel right?

Of course if you've turned on the tv in the past few hours (well days primarily) you've seen that the middle east is exploading. Are they right in their actions of attacking Gaza (sp?) and now Lebanon going after Hezbollah? Is Syria next...and of course Iran will likely jump in if Israel goes after Syria. What will that mean for Iraq/US since it lies in between Iran and Syria.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Israel had enough of these terrorist attacks (but i admittedly dont know everything). but at the same time, i say good for you Israel, go get your boys back.

I read in the quote thread a few weeks ago a quote by Patton: "you don't win wars for dying for your country, you win wars by making the son of a ***** die for his" -General George S Patton US Army.

because i suck at remembering the middle east geography i found this pic helpfull

      I agree.

In WW1 the assassination of Duke Ferdinand was the match that set off a lot of tensions, and the buildup of alliances and pacts is what allowed it to continue going off (war)

I personally believe that we have the same situation started now with the abduction of these Israeli (sp) soldiers.

I'm worried for what this will mean...just have to wait and see.

Isreali's beleave in (hmm closes thing I can think of) Eye for a Eye. You bomb a holy site they run tanks threw the city after muslims. I remember hearing from other Marines that the Isreali military has very cut throat tactics i.e. terrorist take over a plane 2 or 3 civilian casualites are exceptable. But I like calling those tactics kick in the door and throw in a frag grenade.

hahaha, yeah. I havn't had cable for about 5 months. All I get is pbs and I never even watch it. I find that I'm happier not knowing what is going on in the world because it usually sucks.

This conflict will never end. Let's face it, alot of countries surrounding Israel do not recognise it as a sovereign country. They see it as stolen land occupied by jews. The jewish people have their roots there and consider it theirs. Both have holy places on that land. That is why there is so much hate between jews and muslims. Both parties have claim, but none of them want to live together.

It is not just the military action of the last few days, it has been going on since Israel declared itself a country. The land that was formerly known as Palestine was annexxed, and some land from neighbouring countries aswel. This has never sat easy in the middle east, and some countries up to this day still have a hostile attitude towards the state of Israel.

Because of this, Israel has one of the most advanced armies in the world to counter any threat from neighbouring countries. They learned to fight hard for their land and are not planning on giving it up. Every Israeli man has to do 2 years of service in the army, and their training is hard. The army is also used to counter terrorism, (or resistance by the opressed palestine people, just how you look at it) and strike back with the same hostility.

Hate begets hate, so this is just a continuous spiral of violence with no end in sight.

The way i see it, the only solution would be banning religion all together. Alot of wars that happened in the last 2000 years were in the name of some god or holy places. But i doubt that will ever happen.

In this case since none of the peoples who claim ownership of the region have lived there consistantly over the last 2000 years, I think it belongs to whomever can fight off the rest. If you want to worship there act civilized, otherwise your gonna get hurt.

                            when will it end? never

People in the middle east have been fighting over this "sand box" since the beginning of time. It all started way back when because of who knows why. I dont understand why they would want to live/ fight over a climate that is 100+ everyday. I know that it has biblical history, but can they not worship it without being there. After all most of us (here) worship God, and he is not literally standing beside me. If it were me I would worship the "holy grounds from some where nice say Hawaii, SC, AGD parts warehouse, etc. I guess its just the difference in our cultures that I dont understand. My oppinion is that the fighting will NEVER stop untill one of the two religions cease to exist. As for WW3 I think that is a little far fetched, but I would have said the same thing about 9/11 5 years ago. Oh well thats why I'm not in politics, and try to keep from watching the news. Its all too depressing/complicated.

                            Just my two cents
