Mazda3. Quality car with more luxury than an integra/civic or celica, a lot more practical space, and its not gay.

I rode in a mazda like last month...and if your a person who pays attention to detail..the car will digust you..i noticed a few small things i didnt like mainly...where the plasitc/rubber material that made up the door panel came together they have very ruff edges and gaps...the quality controll just didnt seem good...i know 2 owners and one of them hasnt had his long enough to say, but the other likes his..says its a good car.

Test drive a lot of cars you think you may like. Buy the one you like the most. It's a relatively simple concept.

I just got a 2003 corolla on monday with only 48k on it for 10g
Its a pretty nice car. Great fuel economy yet I find myself speeding frequently ;/

Uber comfortable and when you get in a wreck (you will) you wont die.

Get a 1 month carfax subscription. It will let you know if the vehicle has been wrecked before. DONT BUY A CAR WITHOUT KNOWING THIS

Also make sure before you buy the car you have an inspection done on the car by like a goodyear or something. Dont bother with any dealers who wont let you do this, they arent worth your time.

It took me a good month or two to find a good deal on a car that I liked, so be patient. It gets very frusterating and car dealers are all arseholes. Every single one of them I dont care what you say. Dont ever trust anything they say. Dont let them mess with you.

second the corolla (or any toyota for that matter)

personally, if you dont mind looking at 40k+ miles and 3+ years old, look at a WRX

For $600 you can get a ECU tuner that you can do yourself, which has some great modes including economy (drastically turns down the turbo and limits your RPM) as well as some more "fun" modes of course . They also have the legendary scoobie reliability as well

WRX and tuning - the WRX transmisson has been known to catastophically fail under moderate abuse. Scattering pieces is not a good thing and tends to be more than a little pricey.

25 year old Mercedes. Not a great idea for a daily driver. Nice cars, but even their electronics and vacuum operated controls do not age well.

Don't go exotic for your first car. Look around and find a decent mechanic in your area and see what they recommend. Frankly if the good mechanics in the area don't like European/Japanese / whatever you will find yourself paying even more than the normal extra to repair them. If you have to depend on the dealer your going to find yourself in a very expensive situation. I think my dislike of Audi/VW around here has to do with ultra poor dealer support as much as the quality issues of the VW. Ok - having to pull the front bumper + everything between it and the engine to do a timing belt on a Passat is just retarded regardless of dealer support.

i drove a yaris last week (dont remember which model, it was a dealer lender), it reminded me more of a scion then a toyta (yes i know, same) but i just didnt like the handling (atleast compared to my forester). i've really only heard good things about it though.

i know man, i HATE those ricers. check out my car, its pure muscle!

I'd go for a car with a good mileage
Check out the lancer oz rally, sporty but great on gas
the celica is a good car on gas a well.
Civics everybody knows is good on gas
If you can afford it too check out VW line of cars, they're all solid cars, not the best on gas, but solid cars. Used value tends to float at like 15k for most newer modeled VW's
I knew not what I did but am now edumacated
