Non Lethals WARNING: 56k no likey

Hey, it's been awhile since I've posted (I never posted much in the first place) but here's something I thought you guys might find interesting. I'm in Iraq right now working at a detention facility. Our pre-deployment training was back in Jan/Feb, and we had one day where we just shot non lethal rounds. If you think paintballs sting, feast your eyes on these:

These are fin stablized rubber rounds that are shot out of a 12 guage shotgun

This here is a bean bag round, also for the 12 guage

Here's something I didn't know. bean bag rounds are filled with these tiny LEAD pebbles

These paintball sized rubber rounds are shot in a cluster of about 20 or 30 out of an M203 grenade launcher. The one you sometimes see mounted under an M16

And finally, sorry for the poor quality, but I know you'll be interested in this, these are simunition rounds for a 9mm handgun. Fortunately I've never had to train with these. My fellow marines tell me they hurt like a female canine.

cool beans, those rubber rounds look intimidating, those simunitions are really intresting though and look painful. Do you guys ever use or train with pepperballs ?

Nope, never used pepperballs. I got out of it since I was on guard duty, but most of the guys here got sprayed with OC. The ensuing horror stories made me glad I missed it.

Yep, those SIM 9mm rounds do have a nice sting to them. The ones I shot (and got shot with ) were 400fps @ close range.

The only thing we were required to wear was this big goofy helmet. Thick clothing and of course if you wore an athletic cup it was a big plus. We made fun of the wearing of any other protective gear.

Simunitions don't really hurt much more than paintballs. We used them to train in basic room clearing and scenarios. I didn't even notice a few hits until I was undressing, not unlike paintball.

                Keep all of them clean.

I've shot someone with one of the "bean bags" before, they went from a dead on sprint, did a flip in mid air, and came to a sudden halt. Great fun! LOL

I thought we were only using sub-lethals domesticly, now in the box too? Make sure you don't use any harsh language either, don't want to hurt their feelings or give them a negative self-image.

Make some dogs bark at their genitals, that is always a hoot!

                  Stay safe trooper!

Do they still call those non-lethal in the military? Law enforcement has almost entirely switched to "less lethal" as a beanbag or rubber round is capable of causing a fatal injury.

Well, yeah, the current term for this stuff "less than lethal". I'm not that concerned about the terminology.

Sure, we have non lethals (sub-lethals, less than lethals, owie makers, boo boo bags, whatever you call them) at the detention facilities. It's not like they're all over the place though.

Yeah, because of that abu ghraib pic dogs aren't allowed in any facilities over here anymore. Iraqis are especially afraid of our dogs for some reason. And don't worry, we'll abstain from "no-no" words. Carebear stares and group hugs for everyone!

If you're talking about the black rubber balls I'm holding in my hand they're solid rubber.

Which reminds me, we also got to throw rubber ball grenades. Although the rubber balls in those were smaller, and the rubber was so hard it was almost plastic. If you saw "The Longest Yard" they used one in the movie. They're not quite as cool when you throw them outside though. Nothing to watch them bounce off of.

I was just asking a question about what you referred to them as, not making a soapbox speech about incorrect terminology. Overreact much?
