I removed all the cigs I had, and threw them away at a gas station, spent the next 3 days in withdrawel hell, and it got easier after that. Good luck, and try to find positive influences!

yeah i dont want to use paches or gum unless some one can say that they REALLY work, but i dont belive it as of now.
one of the big problems is at work I stand 1 man 12HR watches in radio, so basicly i have to be sitting in one place for 12hrs listining to radios, and the only reason i really have to get some one to stand my for me is to run out for about 5 min to get food, or go down for a smoke (which i do about 3 times a watch).
Theres also some times that I just enjoy smoking, so Im not real sure what to do about that.
        thanks guys.

As Moe has already said, just QUIT.

The decision has to be made in your head that you REALLY want to quit. All the crutches in the world cannot help if you haven't made that decision and actually have the strength of will to follow through. The biggest problem people have is the self defeatest "its so hard to quit" BS. If you think like that you WILL be smoking again. Consider that every time you chew a (nicotine) gum or whatever else that all you are doing is offsetting the withdrawal that you MUST face in order to get over the addiction.

It also helps to not hang around people that are smoking for the first week or two, and DO NOT drink those first few weeks.

I smoked for about 10 years and quit cold turkey. I have never looked back. They are disgusting to smell and taste now. I feel better, can breath better, everything tastes better and I am not spending a good deal of money everyday for nothing more than killing myself.
            I mean geez...$3+ a pack and not even a Buzz? c'mon!

I started smoking as a freshman in college and i started at like a pack a day by the first few months. i smoked throughout college and stoped when i got out. I basically just tapered of, went from smoking 10, to 5, to 1 a day untill i just stopped. still had some tweeking and what not but was not bad at all. what you need to do is figure out why you started smoking and why you keep smoking and see if it is worth it. I was a social smoker so when i got out of college i stoped hanging with people that smoked and so i quit. if you can't get out of the situation that makes you want to smoke simply find a substitute and either slowly institute it or stop cold turkey.
or just screw it as we only live once and if you enjoy it keep doing it

Well, I could never do the "cold turkey" thing. I did it gradually. Took me about 3 months. One day I just cut out one cigerette a day (One I didn't really need as much - not the first of the day or after eating - those were the best, almost). I kept that up for a week. The next week I cut out another and did that for a week. And so on and so on. I saved the hardest for last and chewed a LOT of bubble gum. Towards the end I was able to cut out those "best times" cigs. The very last and the absolute hardest were the drive to and from work cigs. It was almost an hour each way commute on the freeway in Houston. Boy did I smoke a lot then. The "driving" cigs were the worst. I would chew a pack of gum each way. But it worked and in February I will have been smoke free for 6 years now. If you really want to quit, I'll help you out!

I second the heroin But really, cold turkey. And when you get a craving, suck on a lollipop. It helps with the physical addiction. I hope that helps, good luck.

I quit smoking last week actually, just went cold turkey. Ive smoked for about 6 years now and all of a sudden i just felt like there was no reason for me to smoke anymore. Its been one week, but i spent the whole week hunting up in north dakota so it wasnt too bad. It got my mind off of it and made it easier.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

I've been smoke-free for almost 7 years now after close to 20 years of smoking. Keep asking yourself... "who's in charge of my life? Me, or these smelly paper sticks?" Also, listen very closely to that congested rattle you have in your lungs every time you take a deep breath. That rattle will go away if you quit.

I used the patch, and I followed the directions to the letter, including using less stronger patches as time went on. They were expensive, but a bargain considering what smoking was costing me every month. I threw EVERYTHING away the night before I quit... lighters, ashtrays, anything that was remotely linked to the smoking habit. Avoid all situations that are "triggers" for you to want to light up.

Good luck. Believe me when I say I am pulling for you. I have NEVER regretted giving up smoking. Life is tough enough without having to deal with self-imposed problems like the smoking habit. Keep us posted!
