Moemag has it right. Just quit. I tried tons of methods, and found the only one that worked was to just stop. Make the decision that you simply don't need to dedicate 2.5 hours a day to smoking, stick to that decision, and you'll be fine. When I finally decided I'd had enough, quitting was easier than I expected.

Also, skip going to bars for a month or so.

I don't smoke, nor do I ever plan to. But my team mate had a big inspiration to quit. He is a pilot, he kills misquitos for a living, and he wanted to buy his own plane just for fun, and the insurance for his plane would cost him the same amount every month as cigarettes...I hope that made sense, if not... Money on cigs=Money for insurance.

3 bucks is cheap for a pack of Marbs around here. Infact you cant get them for less then 4 bucks. But I know this because I used to work at a gas station, not because I have smoked recently.

I just stopped smoking, cold turkey. It's all in the mind and if your weak minded you will need something like the patch or gum to help you. Now mind you I didn't smoke long, a year at most of pack a day, but when I quit, it was my mind that kept me from going back.

Just going the cold turkey approach is how I did it. It's brutal, and if your co-workers are anything like mine they'll want to kill you for the first few days while you're goign through withdrawl hell, then they'll just understand and be cool with it. Just do your best, and fight the cravings. It took a few times for me to be successful, but I went from a pack and a half a day to nothing. So it can be done, and I've been smoke free for almost 3 years now. Do I still get cravings once in a while? Yeah, but I just deal with it.

It also helps that I work at a hospital affiliated with a cancer center and am regularly exposed to cancer patients who are having body parts removed due to cancer. First time you see a lung lobe removed from a patient due to lung cancer you get a little more motivated to quit.

Gum...lots and lots of gum. I almost chewed my fillings out! The Dentyne Ice is the best!

i'm tryin to quit right now too. the best way to go is to start running, i just about coughed out one of my lungs the first time, then it gets easier and easier. then after about two weeks, you feel clean. just think to yourself, if i smoke a ciggie, its going to be that much harder the next time i go running.

other than that, just keep busy, plan out your day so that your not sitting there thinking "theres nothing to do, hmmm.... what to do... hmmm... a ciggarette would be great right now!"

didnt read all the replys, dont need to. If this has already been posted, then good luck. I smoked for 25 years and tried to quit more times than I can count. I can tell you this tho, you aint gonna quit until you decide in your head that you are. You cant just cut back. That doesnt work. You cant use the patch or the gum. That wont work. They are just substitutes for cigs. Nothing will work until YOU decide that you want to quit. When you decide that you no longer want to smoke, then the battle is almost over. Then it is just two weeks of willpower. Thats it. Thats how you quit. But if you dont get your mind right, then you ARE just cutting back until you start again. Good luck.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.
