    Any1 knowledgable about exercising?

So i wanna start jogging so i can get in shape for the 07 tournament season. I wanna jogg around 12 pm when i get out of school..but i also don't eat all morning so first thing i usually want to do when i get out of school is get some lunch..so if i do jogg at this time should i eat then jogg(course after letting food digest) or should i jogg then eat (not sure how well this will go seeing how il be hungry and hardly any energy)...or should i just tough it out and get up an hour early before school and go jogg?..Really dont wanna get up..hard enough gettin up now as is..much less an hour early..Is one time of day better then another to excersice? Any other pointers..i used to jogg when i did martial arts..but i just got lazy..so ye idk...any info is greatly appreciated.

I'm not a born runner. In fact, I hate running a whole lot. I force myself to do it pretty much daily, but here's what I've found: if I'm not in the right mood to run (i.e., if it's too early in the morning) I can't make myself do it. My dad, on the other hand, is a marathoner at 50, and can run for hours at any time of day, on an empty stomach. I can't eat before any physically exhausting exercise (I discovered this the hard way in the middle of a rugby game once, but I can eat right before I get on the mats at jiu jitsu or the diving board and be totally fine; it's really all about your body).

So maybe there are "rules." I don't know them. All I know is that sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 every night, I get my butt off the couch and I drag myself to the gym. Set a specific time slot up, so you feel guilty if you don't go. I, personally, like to set a specific route (when I run outside, which is rare in Hahhhtfud), and specific distances when I'm in the gym.

And for god's sake, wear good shoes. Don't hurt your ankles, knees, hips, or back.

Ye, im gonna need to invest in a good pair of shoes..skate shoes dun give very good support when running..and track cleats dont fair well on concrete...i might wanna look into a good pair of running shoes. Thanks for the advice..ye i guess i do just need to find a good time that i actually feel motivated to go run,and generally for me food+physical acitvity isnt good...but i just think running on an empty stomach will be awfull, mainly the lack of energy part...maybe ill get some granola bars or something somewhat healthy and sort of filling...

      Anyone else?

I'd go to a 25 yard or 50m (if available) pool.

Swimming 3 miles in two hours (~200 laps in the 25 yard) is much more beneficial than jogging for the same amount of time.

Eat something light, with carbs about an hour before you run. Just a snack. Then do maybe a quarter mile or half mile and stretch. Stretching is the only way to prevent injuries. That being said, go about your workout and do your jog. When you are done, get a good stretch in again. Half an hour after you are finished is the best time to eat, because at this point is the peak for your body to absorb the nutrients it needs to repair itself and build muscle. Something with a good amount of protein is best for this. Milk and peanut butter sandwhich are easy enough. Just make sure and stretch though.

Oh and for shoes, if you can find a Fleet Feet, they can fit a shoe to your specific stride, which can prevent alot a injuries like stress fractures. Otherwise, a good neutral shoe is the Pegasus by Nike. PM me if you have any questions, I'm a fitness nut if you can't tell, and I can give more tips.

              One last thing: stretch!

Working out is hard for a lot of people (myself included) because they dont set aside time each day or every other day to work out. its something you have to start doing NOW if you ever really want to get into shape. I find it hard to run every day because i work construction and some days are just really hard on the body.

                    lol, mangies...

When I was running to get my cardiovascular system up for a spar, I set aside a time I knew I could run EVERY DAY, no matter what the condition. I would basically wake up at 5:00 am, do a warm up run, do some deep stretches, then get to work on really running. Start off easy and ease into more intense workouts, that way you don't injure yourself pushing too hard. You also don't need to run 3 hours straight. Honestly, my morning workout only took an hour. After a month of that, I was in good enough shape for a 3 round spar.

                    .
