Military Service

I am 19 and am currently in college. I would like to fly helicopters for the US Army. Little family history:

Grandfather: Former (if you ask him "current" ) US Marine in WW2. Spent most of his time in the Pacific. Made it up to lance corporal.

Father: Joined the Navy in the late 70's and got out in the mid 80's. Served on a Knox Class Frigate, the USS Moinister and also on the USS Independence, a Forrestal(?) Class. Made it up to LtJg.

Uncle: Went to the Airforce Acadamy. Flies C-5 (REALLY, REALLY big cargo plane). Got out in early February to fly for the airlines, is now back in (wanna guess why ). He's a Major.

Stepbrother's first father: Rescue Swimmer in the Coastguard. Made it to Petty Officer Second Class before being killed in a helicopter crash in 1986.



That leaves me no other alternative for military service than the US Army, less I wish to start a civil war in my family

I am pretty sure on this but not confident, dont you have to have 20/20 vision or better to join the airforce? cuz if so, flying a fighter plane is out for me, seemed like a cool thing to do at one point, but o well, i guess i cant be an astronaut either

no u dont have to have 20/20 to join the air force but u do have to have corectional 20/20 to fly jets. the air force is alot more than just flying jets.

I'm currently a contracted Cadidiot, Army ROTC. I'm in Pershing Rifles and Scabbard and Blade. My Captain said he sees me in SIG (Cool) or Chem Corps (EWW!), and I like Cav so Aviation or Armor are on my top 3. Not really a true ground pounder type. My dad was Air Force and I thought about going that way, but I like the Army. Anyway, time for my military history quote:

My family has over 250 years of military service in the past 3 generations without a single combat fatality.

Grandfather was in Korea, Army.
Cousin is an Air Force F-16 pilot overseas right now.
Sister's boyfriend will be a F-15E backseater.
Uncle was in communications in Air Force.
And on, and on, and on...

Troop Commander and Apache pilot for 3rd Squadron, 6th US Cavalry in the Republic of Korea. 10 1/2 years in service, 7 countries, 8 moves in the same period of time.

The rest of my family has been Navy NCOs since the beginning of time except one grandfather who was Army air Corps during WWII. My little brother is finishing Army rotary wing flight school this month.

Currently a SSgt in the USAF as a weapons loader,(2w1/462 whatever you want to call it) and right now im at Kunsan AB republic of Korea. Not to much paintball here but we make due.

Air force for little over 5 years...just got back to the states from a 3 year in japan with blembiggity. those were the days, now stuck at shaw for a while tryin to get to korea.....hey kris let's go to 007s for a drink. late

i served two years active army in germany as a tanker, 1st AD -> best time of my life, and leaving was the hardest thing i've ever done . . .

kinda funny, w/ a two year enlistment as a tanker, i spent 6 months as dismounted infantry w/ UN, and another 4 months as a stinking clerk once the 'Man' found out that i could use a PC . . . grumble grumble . . . but man do i miss all that horsepower !!!

i am def. looking into the military

i am always reading about guns/wars.. i think a major part of my life must deal with serving my country. my goal would be to become a sniper in the Marines, but if that doesnt work, i'd wanna be a sniper for the SWAT team. i could never in my life sit at a computer for a days work, soo soo boring, no fun at all.. need to shoot, its my livelyhood..
