Here is a picture of me and my Medical Administrative assitant Johnathan. He does our filing and is just an all around asset to the office. He is a great guy who can make you laugh your *** off telling stories about the Philippines.

Here is a quick peek in the AFTH (Air Force Theater Hospital). They so some incredible things there considering the conditions. The hospital itself is a huge tent, or more accurately a series of connecting tents. They are building a new hardened hospital on the other part of the base, but it isn't finished yet.

        My favorite soda.... Iraqi style!!

          Gotta love Coca Cola lite

They had that, as well as Sprite lite everywhere when I was in Saudi Arabia. Stay safe bud, and keep taking pictures!

Your rack's looking pretty spacious in comparison, USS Eisenhower sitting on station for Somalia operations.

If you get over here to Anaconda let me know and I will treat you to a DFAC 1 steak and lobster!!

Army, I can't remember, but weren't you here at Anaconda as well? I don't think you would recognize the place. There is building all over the base. The construction guys were tearing down all the old hardened revetments for the AAA and tanks and stuff. Need more room on the flight line I guess.

The troops here are great. I am especially proud to know the folks from the Air Force Theater Hospital. It is incredible what they are doing under incredibly poor conditions. The hospital is a series of tents connected by plywood gangways. Inside there are ICU, ER, OR, PT, all of the departments that you would expect from a major hospital... all under canvas. The people are great, and they have really welcomed me when I am up there. You see the real price of war there, both military and civilian. With the advent of the level IV body armors, more people are surviving attacks then ever before. However, extremity traumas are sending these soldiers and civilians home minus limbs. It is truly a heroic effort that the doctors, nurses and staff perform every day, yet is is hard to see the destruction that war brings.

The other thing that this war brings is rain... rain.. and more rain. I feel like that scene in Forrest Gump when he starts talking about how "all of the sudden... it started raining..." LOL. The mud here is incredible. It is an ooey gooey mess... I have a picture, but my camera is on strike at the moment, so it will have to be later when I post it.

Thanks for all the PM's asking if I need anything. It is interesting, but all over the base there are pictures, notes, letters, pictures, drawings, and what have you, from children, parents, loved ones, and total strangers that are sent to us care of "Dear Soldiers". While I may not wear a uniform, I feel the support that is being sent out to us here at Anaconda. There are hundreds of these letters distributed all over the base every day, and especially at the hospital that really makes the Troops feel better.

Well it was bound to happen.. I have a patient.. Stay safe everyone.. and more later.

                    Hey Doc!

The CSH (before the AF took it over) seems to have not changed any, still theatre tents. The EECP right there, was the scene of our largest V-bed, but since it's blocked to vehicles, the ambulances had to get there and back through the North gate.....suuuuuck!

Is the hole still in the outdoor theatre screen? That was the absolute loudest rocket we took. Damn thing rocked the whole post.

Hey buddy, I salute you for going over as a civvy. That took balls.

BTW, tell the big voice to shut up for me

I will tell you in terms of the environment discussed in that article (good find by the way) that the air quality in Iraq is horrible!! Not only do you have the dust, but you have bacteria, viruses, pollens, molds, dried animal feces, plant matter, etc. which our USA immune systems have never seen before.

Practically every person new to the area here develops a nasty case of Sinusitis or bronchitis and is sick as a dog for the first 3 weeks here. I have seen some nasty infections here that we would never see in the states.

Army -- That gate you talk about is Off limits now to all traffic. Only North and South ECP. We have had tons of shooting from the guard towers. Allegdly, one of the tower guards got sniped about 3 weeks ago, so they aren't taking any chances. Now anything that gets too close gets shot at. And that includes animals.

They had a IEC here not to long ago. IEC you say? Improvised exploding cow!! I kid you not! There was a bovine terrorist! Apparently this cow had some sort of load on its back that carried explosives. Took out a huge chunk of the wire, and threw cow bits all over... but no lives lost on our part. Now the poor dirt farmers can't graze their cattle near the wire....

It is a wild and wierd place. The outdoor theater is gone. The indoor one is there, covered in a hard mortar roof after it was hit a few times. We have a subway, green bean coffee house, burger king, pizza hut, and Popeye's chicken all on base now... and we are growing like crazy. All the old outbuildings are being mowed down and new being put up. The hospital is eventually moving into some new hardened structures soon (and they can't wait). The tents are damn near all worn out.

Right now the mud is the worst opponent. There is standing water everywhere.. and you dare nor drive in any puddles!! Hell no! You never know just how deep the holes are what with all the armored vehicles playing in them. I went through one the other day that the water came up to the running boards on the excursion!

                        I hate mud.

                        Anyway.. more later.
Thanks for the PM's and posts. I am doing well and still able to take nourishment!

                        Stay safe!

Oh, and Happy Iraqi New Year!!!
