Tool - Wings For Marie/10,000 Days, Vicarious

    Heart - Magic Man

    The Doors - The End

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence, Black Celebration, The Darkest Star

Pink Floyd - All of Momentary Lapse of Reason (Minus Learning to Fly and Dogs of War), All of Wish You Were Here

I find Tool's new album to be drastically different than their older stuff, which I love, but I really enjoy 10,000 Days too, perhaps more than any of their other albums.

Ive always enjoyed Heart, Magic Man just happens to be my favorite song from them.

All of The Doors stuff is good, but The End is the most striking and 'haunting', maybe because of Apocalypse Now.

Im not sure why I like Depeche Mode so much, perhaps their electronica/rock feel?

I feel like perhaps Momentary Lapse of Reason isn't given the credit it deserves, overall its my favorite album from Pink Floyd, maybe because its pretty much all laid back and chill.

I've got a pair of BOSE headphone my buddy's dad gave me. Things had a $300 price tag on them, but I didn't save anything that came with them.
These things cancel out sound, and the cable that connections them to the 1/8th input jack has a switch on the jack that amplifies the sound.
I know absolutely nothing about headphones, but these by far are the best pair I've ever used, and until something happens to them, I don't plan on getting anything else. I feel like a space man wearing them.
Also in case you weren't aware, noise canceling headphones were originally designed for the aviation market. Sound levels in the cockpits of small piston powered airplanes are pretty high and even with standard passive noise filtering headsets you still get pretty tired from the noise you do hear after hours in the cockpit. (yep, I said tired!)

The bose units are probably the most expensive on the market and really don't perform any better than other brands at less then half the cost.

                Dang.
                Good thing they were free!

Does anyone here listen to Meshuggah?
They've got some of the most unique timing in their songs I've ever heard.
                Blows my mind.
"To give an example, the main riff of the song "New Millennium Cyanide Christ" from their 1998 album Chaosphere follows the aforementioned blueprint. Haake beats a rather slow 4/4 rhythm with his hands, while the bass drums and guitars play a repetitive 23/16 rhythm pattern on top of it. As the subdivided pattern is repeated, the pattern's accents shift to different beats on each repetition. After repeating the 23/16 pattern five times, a shorter 13/16 pattern is played once. These patterns sum up to 128 16th notes, which equals exactly 8 measures in 4/4 meter."

Yep, knew that, and therein lies the problem. The headphones were made to cancel out sound, and yet they are now being used for sound playback. Applying that much processing just plain sucks. I want the least amount of processing possible, which is why I am a huge fan of vinyl.

Yeah I listen to Meshuggah every once in a while. They do have some cool timing. When I want to hear some insane drumming I listen to 'War'.

You should check out 'Change of Seasons' by Dream Theater, some pretty interesting timing in that song too. And an all around mind-blowing song that I think every musician can appreciate (especially the live version with the orchestra) is 'Metropolis Pt. 1', also by Dream Theater. It's the most badass, most technical and complicated song I've ever heard.

                    BTW, good thread.

I like Dream Theater a lot, but the whole orchestra thing was played out 15 years ago. It's become so cliche that I actually cringe when I hear an orchestra backing a band.

Speaking of classical instruments used in a song, that made me think of another great, chill-inducing song.

                      Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles

Haha, I hear ya. I love that song, and prefer the album version. Just saying the live version of that song was pretty powerful with the orchestra in the background. And Eleanor Rigby = great song. I'm not much of a fan of them, but Thrice did a cool cover of it.

Maybe you're not into the orchestra w/ band stuff, but check out London Philharmonic Orchestra. They play Pink Floyd and Zeppelin.
