And man, I've been on this insane Meshuggah listening thing lately.
Lots and lots of tech metal.

I've also dug up alot of old music I've written. With other people, or for other people. I look back an listen to how terrible I used to be with a guitar, and how much I've gotten better.

I went from using a cheap Monitor mic and windows sound recorder, to better, more clear recordings.
+1 on all counts. I enjoy the occasional listen of some heavy stuff, but I've been getting in touch with my rock roots. I've just entered the writing stage of my playing, and I've been makin some cool riffs, but most all sound like dumned down satch, all spacey like and such. What guage strings do you use for your dropped tunings? I've got a shure sm57 mic and a toneport, and it works very well for recording, but I currently am lacking a half decent comp. If you have any recordings of stuff you'd like to share that'd be great, be it covers or originals. What's your recording setup?

      Nothing at the moment.
I've actually pretty pissed off at my little combo amp and my stomp box. It's giving me a freakin' echo. I've got the effects filter on bypass, and the batteries are fresh. I dont know what the cause of the problem is. It's ANNOYING.

Atreyu's song "creature" might just be the heqaviest song Iv'e ever heard. Cannibal Corpse can bow down to it. BTW

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. Cannibal Corpse is one of the heaviest bands around for their genrea, and Atreyu is very Different. They can be heavy at times, but if you're going to compare them to CC, then you're going to have to compare them to other bands like Putrid Pile, Meshuggah, etc.

What in your opinion makes a band heavy/hard? SImply their guitar distortion, double kick patterns, blast beats, what?

I like Moby too. My favorite of his is "My Weakness." off "Play." Play and 18 have been getting pretty heavy rotation in my house lately.

My roommate was flipping through the channels an hour ago, and MTV was playing Gym CLass Heroes. They sampled some of Supertramp's 'Breakfast in America', and let me say they did an AMAZING job with the samples.

                    Gym Class Heroes- Cupids Chokehold
                    Very nice song.

Anyone who has seen the movie 'Garden State' should already know everyone single song on the soundtrack is amazing.
I went from listening to The Black Dahlia Murder's 'Unhallowed' Album, right into the Sound track for GS, and I'm enjoying it just as much. Next up, GHOSTBUSTERS.

Garden State is a fantastic soundtrack. From Iron and Wine to Frou Frou to The Shins, it just rocks.

I used to listen to Ghostbusters all the time as a kid. Savin' the Day and Magic are awesome.

random post in this thread...but it made me laugh. atreyu = not that heavy. if you're looking for heavy, go check out.....crap, I could honestly give you a million heavier bands, so go check out anything but atreyu-type bands. a few of my favorites: machine head, fear factory, dark tranquility and in flames. there's 4 different styles of metal to start you off.
