    Flogging Molly?

Ok, my girlfriend's little brother (14) has started listening to Flogging Molly. Her mom is all worried because she claims the lyrics condone violence against women and that sort of thing. Now I've never listened to the band, but I've heard of them and I've never heard anything about them being misogynistic or abusive of women. Are they really? Or is the mom just being ridiculous? I've read through some of their lyrics, and while filled with angst and pain about the world and life, it doesn't seem very harmful. In fact, I rather enjoyed analyzing some of the metaphors in the music. Anyone care to help me out?

EDIT: He has also started listening to Goldfinger. Never heard their music before either, except for their crappy cover of 99 Luftballoons. Anything his mom should be worried about there?

she should be worried that her son is going to turn into a sissy.

Flogging molly is a sisified version of dropkick murphys.

    DKM FTW!

flogging molly has quite a few songs about drinking and being drunk...

I don't care about that. As long as it isn't preaching violence against women. He already has a bit of a respect problem towards females. I'm trying to act as a sort of role model for him and get that out.

            No.

DKM and Flogging Molly are apples and oranges. Both Fruit, but not the same.

DKM is punk with a irish theme.

Flogging Molly is traditional irish music and folksong, with a hint of punk in there.

Both have alot of songs about drinking, violence, and just irish in general :P

Flogging molly dosent preach violence against women. Hell, if music is used as a scapegoat for anything, you're a moron.

However, you should beat seven shades of **** out of the kid if he so much as touches a girl wrong. That just dont fly.

I fail to find anything in the lyrics of a questionable sort. Infact, I'd say it's pretty tame.

Cool, just wanted to make sure. I know music doesn't make anyone do anything and I hate when people use it as a scapegoat just like video games or whatever. But when you've got a disposition to the problem, listening to questionable lyrics will augment it.

Thanks for the answers that weren't completely retarded (smack the kid around, etc). I know I act like a moron/retard in other threads with the cat pics and all that crap. But I'm being serious here. Even Triangle had a serious side. Some people need to learn to realize that.

Anyone know anything about Goldfinger's music either? He's listening to that too. I'm basically trying to be a role model to the kid. He really looks up to me. So if any of the crap he's listening to has any of those lyrics in it, I want to try and steer him away. I'm cool with the drinking stuff, not a problem. But violence against women is one thing I don't want him listening to. So if I basically start saying stuff like, "Oh yea Goldfinger they're a bunch of *** losers" he'll stop listening to them. The thing is I don't know any newer music, I listen to classic rock. So that's why I'm asking here. I don't need to hear about how the kid needs a beating. He needs someone to steer him in the right direction.

Huh, I went onto Amazon and listened to some Molly and DK Murphy... not bad. I kinda like it. It's like punk rock and Irish music mixed together. I'm gonna go and suggest the kid get some DK Murphy next lol.

Goldfinger on the other hand I still don't know anything about.

Don't know Golfinger, but Flogging Molly is awsome! Lol, in fact I just bought their 'Drunken Lullabies' disk today. I wouldn't let a 14yo go to one of their concerts, but but the music in general I wouldn't have aroblem with.
