Went and saw it last night and loved it. All you pathetic whiners need to just shut it. Its not supposed to be historicaly (sp? lol) so anyone dissapointed about that just needs to drop it. A majority of the people in america probably have no idea about the actual events so (i know thats kind of sad but its true) it doesnt make sense for the makers to follow strict guidlines. Besides, after you saw the previews did you really think it was gonna be accurate? They went for an action packed movie with really good effects, thats about it.
A factual based movie may get the thumbs up by lame *** critics and win awards but action packed movies like that bring in the cash.Comment

Saw it last night, enoyed it for what it was.
Good action flick with farily well done fight scenes. Reminded me of the Paris/Achillies fight in Troy for the most part. Actors all did decent jobs with the material they were handed. Though they really could/should have rewritten some of the more cheesey For Freedom speeches.
Plot wise, well not much to work with to start, so I wasn't disapointed in the fact that it was pretty skimpy, with half of it being tacked on by hollywood. I mean the king in real life basically told his wife. Aint coming back babe, find another good man and have good kids.
Historically/politically accurate it's not. Which really didn't bother me that much as that was what I found so dragging on the 60's movie The 300 Spartans. Everyone else mentioned rhinos and elephants and such as being what struck them as being off. What really got me was the Oracle of Delphi being kept by a 4 pack of leperous life long inbred preist Ephors. That's about as wacked out as it got historically speaking.
And yes the spartans did make with the man love. They were actually fined by the Ephors for not participating in Spartan Pederasty. Which was a chaste non sexual relationship between a full citizen and a boy by most non Athenian accounts.Comment

awsome movie , the gigantic elephants and rhino were stupid , along with the hunchback and the monster lookin guys. the boobz were nice and the action was great. i wish they had showed the persians getting owned at the very end.

It was an AWESOME movie, except for all those transitions between fight scenes called "conversations". The writers tried being so deep (honor glory freedom blah blah blah) and insightful, but they sounded cheesy as hell.
I really disliked the movie's theme of "freedom". They might as well have called Sparta "America" in the movie and changed Leonidas' name to "William Wallace".

That would have made the movie SO much better. I was really disappointed with the guys ending speech about the "army of free greeks". It sounded so idealistic.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Spartans have slaves/squires in the real Sparta? (which would completely contradict the movie's theme of anti-slavery/freedom)War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is strength

Spartans had slaves, yes. Lots of them.
And their manhood ritual didn't involve killing a wolf, they had to sneak into the slave's towns/camps whatever, and kill a slave without getting caught. I believe they weren't allowed to use weapons, but I can't remember.
There's a really good special running on the History Channel lately about the whole thing.
