i got a used computer from my brother in law,it keeps popping up messages about registry errors and shortly thereafter the system shuts down.someone said that my computer has a virus and the best way to deal with it is buy a new computer,my brother in law says that we just need to update the xp that is on it.anyone know what might be wrong,oor have any suggestions?thanks

You have spyware. If you're not worried about the data on the PC, you could also give Linux a shot and not worry about future spyware or virus issues.
