    computer problems

    i got a used computer from my brother in law,it keeps popping up messages about registry errors and shortly thereafter the system shuts down.someone said that my computer has a virus and the best way to deal with it is buy a new computer,my brother in law says that we just need to update the xp that is on it.anyone know what might be wrong,oor have any suggestions?thanks

    Without any detail on the errors you get there's no way to know whether this is an easy fix or whether you're better off reinstalling your operating system.

      hhhmm okay.....dangit this is what i get for not knowing squat about computers,lol.i dunno man it says something like CRITICAL ERROR MESSAGE,REGISTRY FILES DMAGED AND CORRUPTED.....then it says to go to a specific site download a registry cleaner,and then it costs ungodly ammounts of money to use,or buy the registry cleaner.like i said before though im not that good with computers so maybe i may just get a new one.

        You have spyware. You need to clean it off before that PC will function normally.

        This is a pretty good guide that includes links to free utilities that will help.



        If you're not worried about the data on the PC, you could also give Linux a shot and not worry about future spyware or virus issues.

        Ubuntu is the modern, open source operating system on Linux for the enterprise server, desktop, cloud, and IoT.

          Yeah you just need to reinstall the operating system from scratch.
