I always thought turning off and on your engine used more gas than just letting it run...
I could ditch some of the weight, but the acetone thing seems to be the biggest boost. Anyone wanna be a test dummy?
you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...

Most wear to your engine occurs on startup. You're reducing the life of your vehicle to save a few dollars a week on gas. Not very smart.Originally posted by jenarelJAMI always thought turning off and on your engine used more gas than just letting it run...

That's because there is no oil pressure, now if you use a oil additive like the stuff Lucas makes then its not a major deal at all turning it off for stoplights and drive through...Originally posted by PyRoMost wear to your engine occurs on startup. Also remember this is going to raise the temps of your combustion, so not going to be good for many parts of your car, may cause detonation on higher compression and forced induction engines which is going to retard your timing and cause a major decrease in your gas mileage and power....
everything else, well very good stuff to follow :)Comment

I love how topics like this always bring out the crazies, it's just like gun control. Oh and I'm referring to the people in the "mythbusters" link, not us here.
People are always touting the quick and easy solution to getting better gas mileage, there is no quick and easy solution.
I drive a 2001 Escort, not elegant but its my baby and works beautifully, my average mpg is 30. I commute 94 miles a day, and drive 65-75 miles per hour, on half highway, half stop and go.
Three weeks ago I tried an experiment, I reduced my speed from 65-75 to 60-65, yep I was that guy in the right lane, that every body was passing, just me and the tractor trailer trucks.
The change in speed resulted in 40 miles per gallon, roughly, at those speeds I can do an amazing amount of coasting here in New England. The other thing I did was to keep my RPM's under 2000 (I'm guessing I don't actually have a tac), which I think had the largest impact on fuel consumption.
Guess what I'm doing now, I'm driving 65-75 MPH to work every day cause thats what feels natural. I don't need the 2 or 3 dollars a day bad enough to be tailgated every trip by people who don't care what their SUV is getting for mileage.Comment

meh, i'll give it a shot, dont count on as scientific results like in the vid though. just regular gas and my tripComment

don't spill any on your car if you like your paint job.Originally posted by thecavemankevinmeh, i'll give it a shot, dont count on as scientific results like in the vid though. just regular gas and my tripComment

which part are you going to try? The 1/4 cup of acetone? That is the only part I am interested in. Everything else is pretty obvious.Originally posted by thecavemankevinmeh, i'll give it a shot, dont count on as scientific results like in the vid though. just regular gas and my tripComment
