The Marlin action is much stronger and smoother than the Winny. Better mechanics all around.

If ya got the $ I would recommend a Steyr AUG or a US knockoff.

damn right army.. the marlin 30-30 is also side eject where the whinny is top. makes for a regular optics top mount that can be more natural IMO. isnt the 700 based on the 8mm mauser action? i guess most modern bolt action rifles are actually.

had i seen the thread earlier i wold have suggested something like a vintage WW1 or 2 military rifle. I bought an enfield mk1 no4 (.303 british) about 3 years ago and i love it for everything i do: pig hunting, deer hunts, and range practice. i'm pretty good with it out to 400 yards without optics.. i've yet to buy a scope, cause i dont want one for pigs. the great thing is that you can get surplus ammo for vintage guns at a big price break, or you can buy the modern equiv (for hunting) ....

whatever you shoot, have fun and be safe.

Yep, Calico 9mm. That is the smaller 50rnd drum. Need to pick up the 100rnd drums. Alas, money...just need more money.
