Can't get level 10 carrier out! HELP!!

Hey, how the heck are you supposed to get the level 10 carrier out to replace it with a smaller one??

I had to use a pen to push the carrier (with two lines as stated by the set-up guidlines)into position, and now I can't get the damn thing out!

It is really stuck in there!
I want to remove it and replace it with a smaller one as I have a barrel leak that oil does not cure.

Do I have to unscrew the entire power tube and try to push it out from behind, or is there another trick?

And if I DO have to unscrew the entire power tube, how do I do it? With a vice, or pliers? I don't want to scuff it up!

I have a pic set, kinda like a dental pic. There is a little hole on the inside ring of the carrier that you can see when it's installed. I hook into that and slowly pull and unscrew. Be careful not to be to rough or you could damamge the black carrier oring on the powertube tip threads.

Thanks Chuck but I think a small dental pick probably won't do the trick. This thing seems to be pretty stuck!

I've already tried using a larger diameter spring steel wire than what a paper clip is, and it won't budge!

      I'm really getting frustrated here!

Maybe I should just send it in and use up one of my stars??

If I remember correctly, the field strip screw is about the same size of the hole in the carrier. Just kinda screw it in there and pull it out. Not that much to it.

Take the field strip screw (the one on the back end that holds the valve in) and screw that into the carrier. Give it a good five, six turns and then pull. The carrier will come right out.

            Thanks Ironmag.
I thought the hole in the carrier was larger than that, but I will try that out when I get home.

            This is really frustrating.

BTW, I'm a machinist, so I'd think that if anyone could get it out, I could?? GGRRrrrrr!!!!

                One more question.
Won't that ruin the carrier if I'm threading it with a screw?

dont worry, it's the number one way to do it, it wont mess up the o'ring or the carrier, just try and work it out. dont yank it out.

Not that I can think of. The o-rings are what hold on to the bolt, the hole is just a standard size. Not to worry.

                      Ok. Thanks again!
                      I'll try it out later.

You can use it, but you have to cite your sources.

Well, I took the field strip screw out and tried it in the carrier, but as I suspected, the carrier hole is bigger than the O.D. of the field strip screw.

Maybe I should just go to the store and try to find a bigger diameter screw?

your either not screwing it in far enough or the o'ring is ruined. If your LX is currently working, I promise - the field strip screw can grip on the o'ring and pull it out.
