Yeah never really considered that. High pressure air helps out a bit with a mag. I did run co2 in to my classic mag in the early days and eneded up doing some weird things some times...

A classic works fine. HPA is definately worth the investment. You can use it on any future guns you purchase as well.

I definitely feel this thread is exactly what's going on with me right now, I have been out of the sport for about 5-6 years, and the mini mag that served me so well against other guns back in the day but seems so obsolete in the landscape of other guns today. Foremostly is the ability to should a lot of BPS which is a problem now that I am going every weekend again. I see on tv, tourneys, where the guys are running and firing ,and in slow mo you can see like 7 balls splat, I would like to at least get off a few shots with my single trigger and hide, then stick around for someones planet eclispe ego light me up. So, It'd be nice, in a situation where being able to shoot a lot of balls is to the advantage, that upgrading or buying new would seem to make sense. What doesn't make sense is the finnancial part. One thing that is good about it is, the last few times I played, I felt like the gun was kinda a sleeper, to my advantage. Only a few people knew what it was, and they were the ones who gave respect, but seriously, it is still a solid piece. I just added an Evo II egg, and HPA tank (that in itself was quite an investment for me), with those upgrades I couldn't be happier with the Minimag, except for it would be nice to have electro to see what it could for my game

If you feel you need more firepower, it is much more resonable to buy a new electro. You'll spend about the same amount of money to electro your older mag. You can pick up a B2K4 with PDS (eyes) bushy for around $200-$250. The best bang for the buck in electros is the Promaster, around $330-$350 online.. And it really needs nothing out of the box to be VERY competitive, already has ramping and other modes. You already have the egg2 and an Hpa tank, so your good to go.

That is unfortunate. If you are playing speed ball or on a relatively open course I can feel your pain. If you are playing push fire power don't matter, just be patient aim and shoot. Most people who start of straight with electros can't aim :P

Yeah I was thinking about getting an Ion, just so that I could have electro. They are selling for $250 at my local shop. AT that price, it makes it very tempting to throw down on a new gun entirely. My buddy who previously used a cocker, and now uses it as a backup, did, and he says it definitely "keeps up" now.

Thanks for all the replies! I am getting lots of good feedback. It sounds like I should keep my older automag and not upgrade the valves etc..... I think I agree with the idea of upgrading to a HPA system, that way I can use my automage now, it'll be more reliable. Then if it gets to the point where I feel I need to throw more paint, I would but a new complete gun and transfer this air system to that new gun.

Next questions:

What airsystem would you all recommend? What brand and size? When HPA is said it means a nitrogen set up right?

I had a remote co2 system for my automag, can I still use all those hoses etc and just attach the HPA tank?

I like the crossfire tanks, I have always had good luck with them and have never had a problem out of them. I would stay away from Pure Energy tanks, I had one that gave me quite a bit of problems, the recharge rate of the valve was horible. I would deffintly recomend you go ahead and get a 4500 psi tank, if you play for any length of time and dont get one, you will wish you did down the road.

I would suggest looking at an adjustable reg for the HPA too. I personally like the ability to tinker w/ my output pressure if I want. Don't know if that mag is lv7, but if you happen to upgrade to Lv X, it may make it easier to tune it up.

i think...... a big HPA tank....... hrmmm...... and a lvl X, you will be very happy with it. if you so feel the need to, i remember seeing a website selling double triggers for $4. cut off the trigger guard and install the new trigger, thats what? 10 minuites max?

HMMMN. Sounds good except I don't know about having to cut the trigger guard.. That could turn out good, or real ghetto depending on how you do it.

Also, I don't know how worth it it will be to get a 4500 HPA tank, I had purchased one thinking I would get more, but all my local feid reg their fill stations at 3000

The 68 Automag is the only Mag I dont own but I have fired the gun and is the Mag
that made me fall hard in love with Mags. Your gun is Rec (woods) playable right now. but If you want to play Speed Ball these are my humble recommendations:

First, You MUST get an Level 10 bolt that will STOP any paint shredding.

Second. a double Trigger frame from AGD ( a Blade trigger is my favorite) y grip or standard 45 your choice.

Third, ULT on/off this will lighten your trigger pull but may increase your short stroking(chuffing), you have to gett use to it.

To me barrel length is pure BS. If it shoots where you point the gun, Great!

HPA with a adjustable regulator, this is expensive but Much better for the gun.

Lastly an X valve, but by this time you will just might as well buy aRT pro and Have Two awesome guns. Like Me 2 Emags, a Mini Mag, a RT and Rt Pro. all have the above except thye ult trigger just because all Valves would require milling for the ULT on /off.

Dont cut the frame for a double trigger, unless you make a trigger guard for it. Most commercial fields wont allow it. Their insurance companys wont let them usualy. If you want a double trigger, just look around for a used frame.

Buy a 4500psi tank, and eventually you will need the extra capacity. Your field may get to a point of getting 4500psi fills. But the tank will work fine with whatever pressure you get it filled at. If you stay with the classic valve, get a screw-in tank. the adjustable tanks dont do anything for a classic valve. if you plan on getting an Rt valve, then you might want to look into an adjustable, but it is not required. A high pressure output screw-in will work great. It's what i use as the adjustable adds to much weight for my tastes, and no performance gain. I do have a ULT trigger though, so that negates the RT effect.
