Stroke of Genius or Dumbest Idea Ever??

So Im sitting there looking at the ever so simple (and popular) ULE body. And it occured to me that it would be fairly simple to make custom body "sleeves" to fit over them. Not unlike those for Ion's. Im kind of dumbfounded that nobody has done one at home out of PVC or something? Possibilities are pretty unlimited considering no actual mechanical or pneumatic stress would be put on the sleeve.

Not a bad idea at all. You could have plenty great designs that if fubared would be cheaply remade. If you were working with PVC anyhow.

I had considerred this when I was on Deadlywinds website lookign at the body designs he was coming up with for the ION.

Anybody ever try and mod an ION body to fit the ULE body?

Well I for one would think it'd be a good idea as you can see from the ION way it's a pretty popular aftermarket add-on that don't do anything with the function of the gun... Some folks just like to play dress up.

So yeah I would think that a body kit made from plastic would go well... I think the AL would be a bit much....

But who knows, give it a whirl.

I have a buddy with a mill and I think Im going to have him mill a alum rod to fit the OD of the body. I have a fair amount of hand skill so I will probably do the fancy stuff at home with a handpiece and files. Might even be able to make something that picatinny rails can be bolted to. Convertible-Tac?

Mongoose and Cyberave have already come up and made something that will be in MOTM soon...just waiting to be annoed. It's a good idea and you can make endless designs to go over the body...try a design and see what happens

Go for it! I'd prolly buy one for a different look, or if all else fails, to make my mag look like an ion...

I have the capability to one or two for myself but I certainly wasnt looking to market the idea. Just puting it out there. Actually I was hoping to get some feedback from Luke or Jay or one of the other machinists. Its not a question of wether it can be done or not. It just might not be cost effective to mass produce them. Still less than a whole new body design though. If you used delrin or a similar plastic you could dye it too. Or maybe plexi painted on the inside, that would be pretty sick.

edit: ooof, the numbers dont look good.....

Make sure it's fits securely while not damaging the original body,[with o rings?] You dont want the body shifting while playing.

Passing up the obvious shaped bodies why do I envision this eventually turning out a body shaped like a rubber chicken? Never mind what the trigger might resemble.....
